You know what? Its not about the fan experience or whether or not it is a rectangular stadium, it all comes down to the amount of money it costs to play at westpac. Todays papers quotes welnix as saying they lose money at present playing at westpac, so something needs to give to reduce that whether it be a better deal or more crowds. Westpac will not feel threatened enough to reduce hirage unless there is a real and iminent threat to the Nix leaving. At present wellnix take their show on the road, that affects westpacs bottom line. I'd wager that if westpac dont budge then you'll see a new sports complex built by a consortium including wellnix and/or some of its principals. It wont just be ground either, it will include accommodation, shopping, events centre, sports science, gym, pool etc. The Nix would not be the only users, rugby and league and other football would use it too. Westpac would become a white elephant sporting wise
$40-45 Million Soccer Specific Stadium - Petone Phoenix
Never going to happen. My bet is that this is designed to get the honchos at the stadium to listen and work with the club to improve the matchday experience for patrons.
Agreed, it's a threat to try and give some leverage to negotiate.
If they can build a modern 15000 seater stadium for 25 to 30 million, I will wear a pink tutu to the first match. #Tellhimhesdreaming

The lions would be dead keen id say, they have similar issues as we do.
But yeah I don't see the council funding any of it. "A stadium? Don't we already have one of those?"
Haha yeah good call. Another point I want to reemphasize is how far away you are from the game. With 55 inch HDTV's being quite affordable. It is really a put off going to the cake tin and the players are smaller than they would be on your tv. I want to be meters away from the game. So the opposition cant think over the chanting.
And I want a pony.
We sit in row z. can see everything fine. the roof amplifies the chanting and keeps us dry. nothing wrong with the ROF.

You have just got too used to the stadium. Go to england or even australia you are so close to the pitch. It really is a huge factor in getting butts off the couch and into the stadium.
EDIT : Jebus I broke the site. So many duplicates.
In an ideal world it'd be across from the stadium, where all those logs are. 15000 and rectangular. Big games we just shift across the road. I'm sure the lions would use it too.
So many obstacles to overcome for that to happen though. But in a dream world, it would be brilliant.

Shame we can't lend you guys Waikato stadium, best venue in the country. We get good crowds here for sports though, the one thing our council has done right. Think we had 12k for a preseason nix game here.

Reading your posts and responses to others, it has become pretty clear that you're not really reading what they're saying. Especially being as I was "one of those others" who suggested the council wouldn't fund it.

Missed the point. Again.
Where the stadium is now is perfect...apart from the fact that the stadium is to big and to far from the pitch.
At present the stadium is close to pubs ( trax , bencher , old bailey) , Courtney Place , McDonalds ETC and above all its easy to get to. I have mates that catch the train from up the coast and they find it fairly easy to get to the game and I come from Wainuiomata and have to catch a bus and a train and its not a big hassle to be honest even on Sundays when public transport is reduced.

Lol. Wainui is probably the only place in wellington region where anyone needs to do this to get to the stadium. Move it to Petone or Newtown, 75% of the wellington region now needs to do this. And if it's Newtown, you'll be needing bus/train/bus and back, from Wainui.

Yes, I have got used to the stadium. We've sat just about everywhere we can and we prefer row z.
How is a custom built football/rectangular stadium going to get butts off the couch exactly?

Now you've doubley missed the point. Stop making it worse for yourself.
I never replied 1000x this. I was the first post. The first post was talking in an ideal world etc and I even said that, then reiterated that after you missed the point the first time, only for you to miss the point again as well as not even know who said what.

Um because you replied to someone who agreed with what I said. So basically, you replied to what I said. But nice try.

Uhhh I'm done. Enjoy your dying crowds at the stadium. The venue is obviously working so well for you now.

11, around the same time Terry's money turns up, which will probably be about a week before this new stadium opens

John Morrison goes on a massive rant about the problem with the Stadum depsite him being on the Board of the stadium for the previous 6 years.
Totally support the idea, take a look at Dean Court in Bournemouth, completely rebuilt 10 years ago for 6.5 million quid. If it's like this I will be down from Palmy for every game!
http://www.footballgroundguide.com/bournemouth/index.htm
So because it is an oval and seats 35k you won't come down from Palmy to see a game?
