Well, if you had to pick an A League selection team, would you pick any Phoenix players in it? Of course you would. What would your line-up be?

Brosque now plays for the Bling, not the Clogs

Moss definitely been top-notch this season. Not trying to lay blame on any of our defenders, but I can't remember any goal conceded being Mossy's  fault.

interesting how the whole man of the match thing doesn't always capture the teams best player - like you say OOE defenders find it harder to get 'noticed'

also if someone ends up being the fourth best player in a team for say 19 out of 21 games then he'd be a heck of an asset to the side

but back to your question

I think Moss has been brilliant but he has possibly been given more opportunities than some keepers to show his skills

I'd think Smeltz would get a look in, as would Felipe (have also been impressed by Rees)

as to other clubs' players people like

Ogenowski, Alagich, Brosque (more on potential than current form), Colosimo (a big influence in a struggling side), John Aloisi, Matt Simon  - one for the future

have all caught my eye

i should note Muscat and the Bollock Puncher but i won't

LOL@Zullo + Kruse being in there. Thats a joke.

I think Tiatto is probably the best player in this league, but thats me

That's spectacularly harsh on Emblen... he was one of the few bright non-kiwi spots in the Knights last season.

No mention of Matt Carbon who arrived, got injured and never played.

level 2.football league championship
level 3. football league 1
level 4. football league 2
level 5. conference national
level 6. conference north, conference south.

The Knights were never that bad of a team. I think that in season 1 they were let down by a combination of poor financial management and the fact that Adshead underestimated the standard of the league.

I feel that if the Knights had performed better in season 1 they would still be around today.

Having said that they didn't.......

It was like a best of/worst of during the A League history.  Imagine the outrage if a Phoenix player appeared!!!!

Emblen was good last season as a target man upfront. Made for a very good combination with Alen Marcina in the 2nd half of the season, when they started winning games

Just by the way,
what level of quality would the A-League be equal to in the English system? I would guess somewhere between League 1 and Championship.

You'd be right. between championsjip & div 1 for sure. not bad considering how oung a league it is. I thought Richter would have doine better than that. He might even have been a good foil for smeltz.

Hell no... he makes Ferrante and Bertos seem prolific, can't even control a ball...  the only way he'd make a good foil is if we used him to wrap some Salmon in and chuck it on the Barbecue... rubbish.

yes but he would have had ball to play with. HN is right.

Richters biggest problem at the knights was that the knights version of attack was soley to smack the ball up the field to Richter or Divine and then let them do as much as they can, combining lack of support and Richters seeming interest in only showing how fast he can run rather than controlling the ball left the defence an easy steal and me being a very frustrated football watcher...

those fools made a mistake they put emblen when they meant bazeley

Embers was a class act, his ball control was excellent and he looked to set players up, a very good target man. No way he'd deserve to be in a worst eleven. Perhaps they forget that last round when the Knights were the best team in the comp, with Embers playing a big (!) part up front.

Thanks HN & Muso. I vaguely remember watching those games thinking how sad it was that they were about to be defunked yet were starting to win a few at that time.

heh yeah it was a sad time to be an aucklander and a football fan.

The knights had potential on the field, Ricki showed this, yet there ridiculous incompetence off the field insured that they would never get to that potential.

stop saying how good emblen was and that he didnt deserve to be in the team they made a mistake and put emblen in instead of bazeley itss obvious
1. emblens not a defender as it has listed
2. the description fits bazeley perfectly
3. bazeley sucked emblen was good

that article was pretty off the mark. My worst eleven would have the whole Knightzz team with Emblen as captain.

Back page of the sports supplement about Sundays game saying Brownlie, ODor and Old would be gagging for game time to prove themselves. Two of them not even in the squad (god knows what up with ODor). Do you think the journo was trying to imply they are all being axed?

the mystery of O'Dor might have been solved by a Sportal article which suggests a groin strain

How silly

You'd put Johnson + O'Dor in there. Nice one.

And Gao + Marcina would probably march into any team in this league.

Yep, still around, but still based in Auckland, playing before 2,000 hard-core fans and a few hundred hangers-on.

I'm an Aucklander but I concede it's taken a change of city and the enthusiasm of Wellington's Yellow Fever to show Kiwis how to really get behind a football team. (Yeah, other things as well have contributed to the Nix success, but you know what I mean.)

Oh, and the Super 14  starts soon. Anybody out there care?
