I can't find anything to say he has, but maybe it is possible.

Another great thing about Wellington is that it's only 7 hours by car from Auckland. :)

We get plenty of people from Europe come to our office on secondment, they are all in their early twenties and come for a year or two. It's a regular thing in our company - about half end up staying - but it all starts short term, for people in the northern hemisphere NZ is an exotic mystical place that visiting is a once in a life time opportunity.

You hop on an Air NZ flight from anywhere north of the equator and people are gushing with their expectations for a visit to our shores.

Who says that this kid isn't actually sick of struggling to break into the main team and thinks comes to the other side of the world, get some first team experience, a highlight real, make some dosh, and also get to go somewhere a bit different?

Maybe he's just a crazy LOTR fan?

Yes and then you visit Porirua and reality kicks in...

We have a few folk come over too but unlike football I don't think they see their career lasting 15 years max, so it's ok to take a couple of years out with working abroad.

Usually young players who look for a move try and stay at the best level they can or to try and gain regular football by going on loan.

I think it's a good signing but it's still an odd one. Still Rojas has proved that being in the A league was no barrier.

When you visit Auckland International the reality kicks in sometimes for me.

No, I'm saying I think I remember reading somewhere that he had represented Spain. It was my way of saying "but I could be wrong"

Great signing, need a few more around the 24-26ish age group to keep some maturity in the mix. But it's not just the player himself that will benefit the Nix (I hope) but the attitude and work ethic that he learned at an EPL club. This could have a very positive and encouraging effect on the younger players of our squad. 1 down and a few more to go I hope.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Can't see how it is possible but this article claims he's our marquee http://m.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-s-alex-gorrin-joins-new-zealand-club-wellington-phoenix-1-6570063

Youth marquee? Seems highly unlikely though. Our owners don't do that apparently. Maybe Ernie convinced them he'll be an investment and we'll sell him back to Europe but I doubt.

It really is odd that he's signed for us.

The Sunderland fans seem to rate him, been linked to Borussia Dortmund, a bit of googling shows articles about him being close to breaking into the first team, etc.

http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/235318-Alex-Gorrin

Some quotes:

The ball-playing midfielder enjoys getting stuck in at both ends of the pitch and is renowned for his excellent attitude to the game.

and

Can pass all day long and has lovely technique, also has an eye for goal.

Really excited about this guy.

Edit the regexes or whatever to detect quoting seem to need some tweaking.

just looking at the clips now- he seems much stronger on the ball than Riera. A bit like a Tim Brown plus plus, seems strong, able to find the net, when he scores that goal he has pace taking the ball forward.
