ALL BANNERS ARE NOW BANNED--please read

HI I've just gotten off the phone from Steve Thompson from Westpac stadium. He has informed me that from now on ALL BANNERS ARE BANNED from the games. If you bring a banner into the game from now on it will be confiscated as a safety hazard. He said that staff will be instructed to stop people bringing banners into the games.

I'm not making this up.

Here's what happened yesterday when I was standing in fron of the stadium they told me that I couldn't bring my banner: "Daniel's corner" into the game because it was a bulky item. I'm also not allowed to bring te drum in--which has been to every single home game for the Phoenix, and four away games in Melbourne and Sydney.

The guy told me that it was "Phoenix policy" to not allow these items. Which is a total lie.

The new banner cost me $600, was professionally printed and was supposed to go out the front, but now I'm going to burn it, along with my season pass.

I saw Terri at the game and collared him. he called up the stadium guy Steve and made the case for allowing banners and drums. After the game people were asking me where the drum was.

This morning I called up Steve, who informed me that any item that clogs up the seating will no longer be allowed in.

When I asked him if this applied to the drum band who are allowed to be seated he wouldn't comment. HE then tried to tell me that stuff like tat has been banned in Australia, which is another lie.

He then said that he didn't wish to continue the conversation and hung up on me.

Guys, enough is enough. I'm not coming to any more games, I'm cancelling my membership from today. I'm sick of the fun-nazis.

They cannot be serious! What's the worst you can do with a banner? Hurt a player's feelings?

I remember when Stadium security helped tape up our 'Hussey bums Hogg' banner at the cricket.

How times have changed.

Rather than shouting... what's the next step to get the decision reversed? How about contacting some of the Stadium trustees? Their names are here - http://www.westpacstadium.co.nz/people
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Boycott???!!?!?!??!!! How about what they did in australia? refuse to buy their watered down, luke warm, over priced beer and food, or to just sit there in silence?

I'm not going, I'd rather watch at home.

Why should we punish the team (players losing crowd support/home advantage; Terry losing revenue) due to something that is almost certainly not their fault?

Totally disagree with the decision to ban banners, but let's target our complaints at the right people.

Boycott's and silence are for retarded Melbourne fans and it got them nothing.

I'll consider ban-sticking those proposing it.

Man that's terrible, I would have thought that after our good behavior (bar one incident) last year would make the 'fun-police' a little less on edge not kick them into third gear.  They'll be telling us we need to sit again next.

Don't do anything rash yet the Gman!!  You're a great fan, having spent 600 bucks of your money on a banner.  It would be a huge pity and loss for the Phoenix if fans like you walked out.

I don't have a banner, but this policy about banning banners is an absolute joke!  The stadium atmosphere is fantastic with the banners.  What sort of a safety hazard are they?  That's right, why don't we just become like another boring rugby crowd?

I hope Hard News and some of the other YF seniors can do something about this.  Tony P needs to get this reversed.  Even though I have a season membership, I'm for radioman's idea of watching matches at the BB (or wherever) unless this stupid policy is reversed immediately.  For God's sake, get a life Westpac Stadium.  I've been to every single Phoenix game (pre-season and A-League) last year and this year, and have never even seen a hint of trouble.  It has always been a great, fun crowd atmosphere, including many families.  If the huge numbers of the stadium's security staff can't handle the odd stupid incident, then the stadium management is in the wrong business.

how can banners be a 'significant' safety hazard?

drums, though, are annoying in my personal opinion

This is weird - but typical for the Nix.

I was there at 3:30 and I am sure the stewards were helping some fans put up a banner, maybe they weren't. I've gotta stop drinking so much,

I need 17 more troopers to help me with my stomach sign " kiss my arse u w**kers"
I'd like to see them body strip everyone before the game to see what they have written on their stomachs. Will need even less if you big bellied YF boys get into it.

HN - whats wrong with retarded people? They run our country.

Is this why cricket  games have stopped happening at the stadium?. Too many banner related fatalities. Samsung should be sued for having the banner competitions and encourage all the bloodshed and violence they must cause.

Why not make it even easier for the stadium management, ban all people attending any event there. No people = no problems.

The only safety concern is people falling over laughing at some of the injinuity (spelling?) of the banner creators! Banners, flags, umbrellas, what next? I hope they don't ban our shirts off policey for fear such a wonderul site might injure some fans eyesight!

Perhaps the Stadium Management might want to investigate the catering, thats a health and safety issue of serious concern. I'm considering making the effort and laying a complaint with the health department over the crap food supplied.

Well well well the guy from the stdium has just been on radio sport, backtracking faster than Winston Peters in a southerly . He is an absolute liar. He told me that banners are banned, I then asked him if that meant that all banners are banned and his reply was: "yes" . I know this because I'm a trained journalist and I was taking naotes. whenever someone says something stupid like that you always get a confirmation, which I did. now the slimmy jerk is trying o make out like I misheard him and that it's all just a misundertanding, and bloody Miles daqvis just let him get away with it.
