The Big match
It's all come down to this; one game to determine who is Australasia's best. And it must be said that it's refreshing for the competition to see neither of the big city sides involved.
After some emotional roller-coasters in the finals series we've finally come to the big one. Central Coast 'host' Newcastle Jets at the Sydney Football Stadium. There is a pile of questions to be answered in this: Will the officials make a hash of it (again)? Will the pitch hold up to a day of Rugby League the day before? Will Joel Griffiths Punch an official? Will Sash Petrovski say something lucid?
As is often the case in Grand Final football, expect both sides to play it safe at the back early on. However, once it warms up, this game should turn into a 'corker beauty' with chances, goals, filthy challenges and cards galore.
The Mariners will adopt their usual high-tempo, direct approach and seek to get the ball forward to the power and skill of John Aloisi and Saso Petrovski as early as possible. Newcastle are more likely to play on the break via Mark Bridge, Joel Griffiths and overlapping fullbacks Matt Thompson and Tarek Elrich. This is likely to cause problems for an often porous Mariners back four.
Based on the matches to this point in the finals series (apart from those involving Sydney) it should be an absolute cracker from 19:00 on Sunday night.
Remember folks, all welcome at the Four Kings on Sunday, ticket or not. Come and catch up with your fellow Phoenix fans and enjoy the match and the hospitality.
That's all from us - see you on Grand Final night!
Cheers,
