All of those who said this last week after the SFC game should be well and truly ashamed of themselves.

e.g. this was posted last week

IBTL, this thread is a bit of a waste really, leave in the match thread rather than creating more Angst threads which will be closed.

1 game doesn't make a season. A majority of the season we haven't so the statement still stands.

There have been a number of games this season when the team "has not turned up" i.e. they have played with little / no apparent heart e.g. Adelaide and Perth away. Supporters have every right to be disappointed by, and comment on, such performances.

What has been encouraging for me is the spirit and character the team seems to be developing - I was at the recent Roar and Sydney games and I can tell you after the games the players looked absolutely gutted by the results. The huddle before the game tonight and the character shown to come back from 1 down and for 10 men to still be prepared to take it to Adelaide tells me this team is finally coming together. With a very solid core re-signed for next season we have a good foundation to build on.

It is now up to Tony and Ricki to show what they can do in off season recruitment.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I think that people just have to accept that in a salary capped league, where our squad is probably the 5th best, we are not going to dominate every game or play well every game.

Saying that they have 'no heart' is very abstract and tbh quite bullsh*t. Every player wants to play their best - it just doesn't happen all of the time. If every player in the Nix played their best every game they would be in the bloody EPL.

The biggest problem against Sydney was Ricki's terribly cautious tactics and Hearfield's send off.

I agree with most of this..except the bit about playing their best they would play in the EPL...two chances slim and none...sorry changed my mind none and none

I meant that if, say, Lochhead played his best every game and got every cross perfect he would be at a higher level than the A-League. A-League players are inconsistant - that's why they are in the A-League!

f**k yeah timmy. I'm with you. The one thing this team doesn't lack is heart. Sometimes the style of play is not exactly Brazilian, but by Jupiter these guys never give up when it matters!

So do you think we play with heart or no heart Valeo?
Permalink Permalink
about 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
no, I dont think its that, I think its we are uncommitted... and when that happens we genrally lose. when we play with passion we seem to when. thats what it looks like anyway.

muscat last night was a perfect example. he in my eyes had the game of his life. made crucial tackle and got forwad to provide. even took a shot. but hashed it.

in contrast to some of his other games when he has let players skip round him. all engines were firing for him last night.

Of course we play with heart. You think that Brown doesn't want to win every game? That Leo doesn't want to play to his best ability every game? It just doesn't happen like that. I think that, what you describe as 'no heart', instead comes down to Ricki's cautious tactics for most of the year.

How does Ricki get all the blame for what was served up in Adelaide or the 2 games in Perth, because those games sure didnt look like a team that was playing with heart or as a team.Just because some people may question these things dosnt mean they are any less a fan than others. Its just what happens when you support a team.

I sometimes think that those who refuse to accpet some crticism of the team are as bad as some of those who seem to be negative most of the time.

it's those heartless 2 games in Perth that could cost a play off spot.

Yeah 3 wins vs Perth and we would be battling for 1st.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but Perth clearly aren't the easy-beats they once were and have arguably one of the better striking forces in the league.

Not sure why we deserve to win three games against them. Probably the attitude that saw us play so poorly against them.

I wasnt suggesting we would get 3 wins but you have to admit at the start of the season, none of us would have thought that all we would have out of 3 games against Perth would be 1 point.

Well Perth are a good team now but all the times we played them we should of beat them based on how they were playing, if we were playing how we have done in this last half of the season we would of.

There have been a number of games where the players have shown little heart, and others such as yesterday when they have.

No heart -

All games v Perth, other than the last 10 minutes of the last game
2 away games v Adelaide
Last week away at Sydney

Plenty heart -

pretty much every win we have had, which begs the question - why haven't they shown it consistently?

There are so many matches this season I could point to where we should have done better, and over the piece, we really SHOULD be in the top 4 no problem at all. Frustrating really.

Man U 3 - 0 Chelsea. However Chelsea as much as most hate it are still bloody good and a passionate bunch of footy players. Every team has a few matches in a season they wished never happened.

Lol I support Chelsea and that had nothing to do with passion, ManU on that day were unstoppable and could of beat any team in the world. Don't you also remember all the games against Perth?

Come on JD there is nothing complicated about the way we played at Perth or our big loss in Adelaide, all 3 games showed a lack of (i dont care what you call it)heart passion whatever. To say they have not shown this at times this season is just as idiotic as saying they show it in every game.

How can players go for 90 minutes without a heart? Don't you need a heart to move about and do stuff with the ball?

I'm confused now.
