Well done Ricki for subbing him off for Brown, best call all night

Ricki subbed off Aloisi, yet left Old and Plodder on.

Right.

Yet to be impressed with Aloisi this season. As I've said before, distribution poor, lacking pace, gives away needless fouls - nice bloke, but .....

Ricky subbed him off so he could get a bit of rest AND a standing ovation from his former audience.
Rossy is the best center mid we have and Ricky knows that.
Period.

He's only had one good touch all season and that was that cracker of a corner whipped in by Daniel
lets wack 3 up front and diamond midfield. We shouldn't start Filipe Elrich Daniel and smeltz at once. Fillipe could come on half time and really change things once hes back to full fitness

Lacking pace?? Mate you better be a marathon runner or else you're making a bit of a fool of yourself!

Yes, Alosi on the bench next game please. Ricki was in the papers this week saying "even the captains not guaranteed his place" or words to that effect. Maybe that was a warning.

A dog with a bone :)

well, in that case I'll make sure I'm available next friday - cause if Ricky is putting Rossy on the bench, I'll probably get a game this time...

NZP: If I'm not mistaken, marathon runners keep an even pace over 42km. I've never run one but did manage running at two NZ Sec Schools road races and two Cross Country nationals. Playing in central midfield involves have a marathon runner's stamina, but a sprinter's pace over the first 10m. Aloisi does have an engine, but no pace over the crucial first 5-10m.

I think Ricki has bigger concerns than deciding whether to start Aloisi or not.

right. I've played football for about 18 years (God it feels like such a long time) and I've ran cross-country. I can tell you, Aloisi runs a lot, never gives up, and keeps the midfield in place for most of the game.

He might not have the passing skills of Ronaldinho, but he's our most talented center mid - probably on Elrich and Daniel (although they don't play in the middle) are better than him.
And I don't count Felipe as a mid - he's more of a number 10 for me.

Anyhow, Rossy should never leave the field, not even if he was crippled.

I dont think he is playing that great - and would prob prefer Brown there - who is fit as f*** and a workhorse. Granted Ross is a better footballer, but I think he is a bit slow - we always seem to have  their midfield ahead of ours and attacking our backs (who are then running backwards, staggered and not holding their line, and get cut up with a through ball for someone to score).

Anyway, not our biggest concern.

NZP - try playing footy for 30 years. I think we'll agree to disagree over Aloisi. For our 'star' player (other than a marquee player) he is coming up short of 'star' performances - mind you so is Craig Moore at the Roar.

Agreed. Felipe's barnet is a shocker - must go to the same barber as Archie Thompson.

Aloisi brings a wealth of experience, and is well regarded as a leader. Like Mr Feverish says, least of our problems right now.

Changes to formation may help???

What you reckon??

Pity our Marquee player isn't a Juniho or the like!

I say tackle him in the face.

the three back four would bit with what our problems are - but we dont have the personnel to do that!

He's not cutting it, sub him. Make him work for his place like the rest of them.

I think our problems don't solely lie with the back three of the back four. When we lost the ball tonight, the most potent attacking force in the A-League was running at Lia, Aloisi, the back four and Paston - no wonder we looked under siege. Playing Felipe, Daniel, Elrich in the same team away from home is just madness. I would have thought RH would want to protect his young back four rather than invite the opposition onto them.

What you are saying is total sense and should be ouir MAIN concern.

Johnno in for Ross I reckon, just does the job slightly better

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

he has no passion, he (and a lot of other players) needs a solid kick in the balls and ego.

Maybe he's not as motivated? Maybe he's expecting to start every game as captain

Ross is not the problem guys.  Hes the only decent passer we have in midfield. The boys are hanging onto the ball too long at the back, its squeezing the midfield up for space which is putting them under the kosh.   Both lockhead and christie seem to need that extra touch before they look up.  By then, its too late.

I also thought Daniel put us under lots of pressure last night giving away the ball when we were moving forward.

This is a good point, a lot of our guys wait for an eternity before laying off the simplest of passes. Makes it difficult to attack effectively as the opposition midfield has plenty of time to close us down. I think this has been identified as a problem in earlier threads also.

It seems as if Ross is resting on his laurels that he is the captain and can't do no wrong. At times i wonder if he's actually doing anything on the park or if he's doing positional things that arent blatant to me. I think i would prefer Johnson and Brown to him at the moment, it's almost as if he needs a game on the bench to get angry and realise he needs to step up.

We need to start Tim Brown, but not sure we have to drop Ross. I thought Ross and Brown were superb playing together against CCM at home last weekend.
