Dodd has maybe too much passion, I prefer a cool-headed captain who will defuse things.

Yeah I thought that too. Maybe the captains armband will make him cool it?

I guess Durante is the obvious option really. Just would like a player who has been there from the start.

not too obthered about the captain being someone from last season's squad - just want the best man for the job

wouldn't overload Mossy with the job,

Dodd, Durante, or Brown (if he re-establishes himself) for me

don't know enough about McKain

with the new right back as possible extra option

why would being captain overload Mossy Ed? He won't be doing much else on the field!!

wasn't Tim Brown VC and all whites captain?

why is no-one mentioning his name? don't you think now he's shaken off his injury he should be able to step up this season?

ed: ahhh whoops ok now read all the way down...yeh fair enough tough call, but wouldn't be a guaranteed start I guess with Mckain there...have to wait and see what tactics are played...

Durante does seem like a good choice, if he has the same respect from everyone that Ross had...

I'll be very happy if you are right

though the odd Mossy super-save would be nice for old time's sake

Sorry, don't rate Brown as a player, and too angry to be captain. Dodd better choice.

Dodd's hardly calm- did you see when he shoved Patrick against Sydney away

His lumping Kruse in to the hoardings in QUeensland was moment of the season though.

Being able to control your anger is a pre-requisite for being captain now? Someone better let Melbourne know...

I say Tim Brown. Kiwi, currently Vice Captain, should be a starter with Aloisi gone.

anyone smell a poll coming on? I would love to be able to say Brown. Thought he played well against Wales. haven't been able to watch him i the A-league, though I hear he has been injured, had some good and bad form.

If he steps up and we have the faith in him, absolutely yes!

How can we rate him compared to Mckain? Does anyone want to start suggesting starting 11s based on the current squad, with hypotheticals possibly allowed (ie Siggy,  tbc right back and striker, hmmm maybe Vicelich based on nightz post)?

Back on the subject of Ross' intentions, a report at http://www.footballnews.com.au/article.php?id=2148 says he will be spending April on a coaching course:

Meanwhile, a number of Australian representatives will form part of the next intake of coaches undertaking the B Certificate coaching course as part of Football Federation Australias coach education structure. Former Socceroos including Paul Okon, Steve Corica, Ross Aloisi, Carl Veart and Michael Valkanis as well as former Matilda Gill Foster, are set to be amongst some 20 coaches taking part in Canberra during April in the AFC-endorsed course introduced last year as part of the new Coach Education Structure.

The course is part of the Advanced Pathway which is primarily aimed at the professional and semi-professional coach, and also at experienced players who wish to pursue a coaching career.

An element of fury is required in all captains.  Have a look at Muscat and Aloisi.  And how can you suggest Dodd over Brown if Brown's to angry?  Not only is Dodd angry, but he gets quite stroppy as well.

To be honest I'd be happy with Brown, Dodd, Durante, or Moss (not Moss though if only the captain can appeal to the ref).
