....which would suggest he won't be playing this season?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

See, I'm not as daft as I look.

Anything official on this? Statement from Nix management?
Permalink Permalink

googled it couldn't find anything

porbably not birthday type news - if fully accurate (not doubting you AUFC, just these things can get confused by the media)

to be honest, if he does move on then i think we'll be ok

he added a vast ammount of credibility in season one and was a great presence in the media but his fitness was an increasing issue

Imagine if the wrong Aloisi was a commentator.  Going on his verbal displays in games, Fox might have to incorporate a 5 second delay so they can bleep every second word.

It fails there as far as I'm concerned, the only good part of that paper is the cartoon page.
I find it really hard to believe that that paper would have the news even before the Nix management have said anything.

I'm willing to be proved wrong though.

His contract is due to expire at the end of the season, so if his contract is not renewed he wont be playing for us and obviously then not contributing to our salary cap

I'd rather see him coaching Canberra Phoenix  Either way, best of luck to Ross in whatever he ends up doing.

He was the perfect choice for our first season Captain. I've enjoyed watching the enthusiasm he generates to those around him on and off the field. I reckon he'd be a good assistant for Ricki.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Not so sure LG, good players rarely make good coaches. I would love to see him with a role with the Phoenix youth team - program / team manager and mentor. He has the mana (played at the highest level) that young players would look up to. He also strikes me as a no nonsense guy who would sort out any young egos that needed raining in.

To be honest I think he is past his best by date as a player but he has so much to offer the Nix in other roles.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I'm taking that as a School of Rock reference, because I'm an NZRU accredited associate referee

Anyways, trying to steer back on topic - Ross has been a great spokesman for the club and should his playing career not continue, I'd like to see him stay with the Phoenix in some capacity. Canberra could be a good opportunity for him (or even Coveny) to do so. He's stated in full90 that he's keen to pursue the coaching and management side of the game after retiring, so fingers crossed.

Harper gave it away on Wednesday night  just before the kick off to the Adelaide game.
Fox Sports were using Ross as the comments man on the sideline and at the end of Ross talking Harper said " Thanks Ross who played for both Adelaide and Wellington Phoenix, has recently retired."

So if it is true and Ross has retired....Who will be the skipper?????????????

Brown is the vice-captain....but he needs to be on the field most of the time. Who else has the mana? Durante has the balls but he is too new. Smeltz? Lockhead?

First requirement is you have to be a sure starter which counts out Brown - as good as I think he is he is not a definite. The best place to read the game from is the back which counts out Smeltz - it's just too hard to captain from striker. Not keen on Lockhead, I would rather he concentrated on his game - particularly going forward at pace. Continuing the process of elimination I get to Durante. I don't mind he is new - everyone was new last year and half the starting team will be new this year - he has also signed on for 2 years which gives some stability. I like the idea of a hard arsed centre back organising and driving the team forward.

Dodd. Has the passion for it. I'd pick Johnno or Brown but they aren't definate starters.

Dodd has maybe too much passion, I prefer a cool-headed captain who will defuse things.
Should it be a kiwi - maybe Moss or Bertos?

Is this the same commentator that said Felipe had resigned?

i'd go for Durante, definately, leave moss to just worrying about keeping, although hopefully he won't have to do as much organising with Durante there...
the only other person who i'd give it to is lochhead, because he seems to have a cool head, is a starter and has good experience otherwise Definately Durante, would also help him feel at home here
