im more than happen for the phoenix to travel. don't get why some of you so called "core" fans get on your high horse about the team travlling - probably because its the only night your wifes will let you out of the house... its doing a good thing exposing another 15,000 + fans to the phoenix and football in general.

well done chch you more than deserve another game.
Exactly! NZ is on a football high atm we might as well make the most of it, up against rugby, football is a breath of fresh air.
Would love a game back in chch and another at eden park next season. Which would still give wellington 11-13 games depending on the format with 11 teams.

After the whole knights debacle can you imagine 25k watching WELLINGTON play at eden park. Ha ha the Wellington Phoenix are more popular in Auckland than the nz knights (not hard I know)

I just got back from Chch and I have to say, that was an unbelievable weekend, one of the very best. Everyone was incredibly enthusiastic, the crowd was immense and the last 10 minutes the atmosphere was as electric as anywhere I have felt before, with Nov 14 being a notable exception.

The Macs Bar lads in Poplar lane looked after the Fever incredibly well, put on cheap drinks and let us run riot in their sweet pub.

The public were very, very keen to talk to us in Fever gear and seemed genuinly excited about the Phoenix.

I would be annoyed if they DIDN'T go back, it is absolutely a positive for the club to spread it's wings and a great weekend away. I do realise that as a young guy without mortgage, children etc. I can afford it easier than others, but it really was a fantastic experience.

10 out of 10.

Current rankings...

1. Christchurch
2. Palmerston North

1. Christchurch
2. Mangatinoka - Home of  Tui Beer!
3. Palmerston North

Fixed

You drink Tui?
Massive advertising doesn't change the fact its a s**t beer.
Palmy would be much better if you picked a sunny day and got the speedway to take down the wire. Wouldn't think thats a big deal. Harder to get the sunny day, ( as is Welly)
With Manawatu rugby 50/50 its a good place to grow support for a Wellington side, Chch is a good place to grow support for another francise.
Anyway anywhere that puts some money back into Terrys pocket is a good thing.
When is Wellington going to do that?

Three factors:

1. Economic - a big crowd in ChCh is a good case for a game.
2. Atmosphere - related to crowd size (plus a buzz for travelling home and away)
3. Home ground advantage - Not such a good case.  RoF is more intimidating pyschologicially for the opposition (see record since Oct 2008).  Nix did it tough last night (although they do that at roF too - clutching draws from the jaws of victory).

1 & 2 would favour more matches away (in ChCh).  Don't know if we would be quite so generous if Adelaide had left with 3 points last night...

I found it quite interesting that the local'supporters' seemed to chant their favourite rugby songs but putting in phoenix every now and again....and what is it with the yellow buckets?

Because there were no locals. The students were all gone.

Couldn't have said it better.  Well done Christchurch, even the weather was top notch.  Don't know how I got back to the hotel and had a massive hangover this morning but well worth it.  Would go again if we take a game there next year.  For those of us that can't afford to travel to Aus for away games this was the next best thing.

If Phoenix come back next year it needs to be earlier in the season to stop the angst... or at least slow it.

I hope you are joking, because if not you're being pretty f**king disrespectful to the people who go to every game, buy season passes and try to get as many of their friends to the games as possible.  Wellington has a strong average attendance, do you think we all waltz in for free mate?

Perhaps among the general population, but ChCh is certainly the skinhead/neo-Nazi capital of New Zealand. The Nazi leader ran for mayor in 2004 and got a respectable vote.

For an alternative venue my rankings would be 1. Christchurch, 2. Haruatai Park in Otaki, 3.Delaney Park in Levin, 4. Newtown Park in Wellington etc., etc., til we get to about 385th choice of Palmerston North, what a dog of a park that is.....Palmesrston North FMG Stadium? I had a lot of fun playing with those letters for an acronym..Froze My Goolies...Good on the Chch people for turning out in numbers, magic, they deserve another game for that effort.

No I'm not, settle down and take it like a man not a thin skinned little b*tch.
I think the support from Wellington is fantastic.
AND the support from the fever is the best in the competition, so hopfully you can untwist your panties and work out where I'm coming from.

Well done Chch, top notch effort.

I was one of the many numpties who left it too late to book affordable flights to the mainland. Hopefully the club will charter a flight next year ...

I think I've almost changed my mind about games in CCch after this one.  On principle I still don't like home games being played away, but it's hard to argue with a crowd attendance record!  We enjoyed the Buskers Festival as well - good timing! Well done Christchurch - but come on Wellington, we need to get our crowd record back!!   NB we should never ever ever return to that PNth sh*thole though!

Lets not forget, we didn't ask for this game, Terry gave it to us (plus AC/DC of course). We can only work with what we're given. I would love Chch to have it's own A-League side, but we don't so we support yours, how does this harm anyone?

Thats actually a cracking thought however I would have thought that the Phoenix would request road games for a 2-3 week period and get more games back this way later on.

The concept of 'festival' games elsewhere has merit but I think the staunch supporters need to relax a little and realise that no one is trying to steal the Phoenix out of Wellington. The two homes/away games that have been forced on have been successful I think (8k and 19k) so its not like taking a game away is going to sully the affair. The Phoenix are being supported within NZ.

That said, I don't think other cities should expect a game once a year as a right. Yeah CHR did well but I don't think it means 'hey we should do it again next year' If the option was available next year because of a clash, why not head to another city and spread the love. Dunedin, Vegas, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier (I'll deliberately leave out Auckland) Nelson?

Also going back to CHR, there wouldn't be the same volume of merchandise sales because one would assume everyone one bought up on the weekend and would just dust it off again next year.

Valid points, and I think going to different parts of the country would be fun as a fan, but 19k at a game is deserving of another game I think. The more I think about it the more outrageous it seems, especially after what they got for the NPC final.

I think from the crowd, about 10k showed up as it was openning night at the "new" stadium, the rest were there for the football. All coming from various parts of the South island and heaps from up this way. Saw a lot of familiar faces. Photos to come.

now, if given the choice of a game next season being played down there or back up at the Ring of Dirt, CHCH will win hands down with me. No Chicken Wire to block my view! I do have some opinions but as this particular thread is a positive one, I'll save them for another. But I should say it was good to see such a large and enthusiastic crowd turn out for a Football match crowning the openning of a Rugby Fortress.

Where on earth do you pull figures like that from? Blimey.

Speaking purely selfishly I would prefer none of the home games be played away because I'd rather not have to spend additional of my own money to attend a game that I have paid for in my season ticket.

Nah no problem playing in chch again if its forced. But to say "i think we deserve one every year" im with Jeff vader on that one. Mr_incredible just has a massive hate for chch it seems.

But then on the other hand, there is no way this was forced,as ive said previously, its easy enough to switch ours and adelaides home games around when we play each other,so i see no reason for clashes as this one,so highly odd as its something that is very easily avoided.

Yup - to ALL of the above.

Have already been on record saying IF there is another one in ChCh or elsewhere next season I will try and budget for that.  Someone else suggested it being earlier in the season - like that too.  Maybe around the Christmas - New Year break (going into mid Jan). Could afford time off work and have a Southern holiday (we don't drink Speights but, or even Wards/Canty Draught).

But you wouldn't expect most of the 19k crowd to know the YF chants or maybe even many football chants.

If they are egg ball boof heads or Canty netball "slappers" (to use a quaint Plummer description) they will modify what they know to the footy.

Could have been worse.  Could have had basketball fans with a hammond organ doing those silly DE-FENCE chants.

One thing not mentioned on here is the possibility of an Australian team playing one of their home ganmes against the Nix in Chch. ie, gold coast could either get 4000 at home or play their nix home game in chch and get 15-20k.
