Found this. Might help clarify the situation.

FFA Rules and Regulations: Article  21 - Exceptional Misconduct.

Section D.

ALL incidents of misconduct which occur during a game and which are brought to the attention of the FFA after said game may be subject to disciplinary action. There will be no exceptions to this rule, except in situations where:

a)      Incidents of misconduct by Newcastle Jets players which have been dealt with by the administration of a caution by match officials in the course of the game. This covers relatively minor incidents such as striking Assistant Referees in the knackers or urinating  in the referees mug of tea at half time. (N.B. Fondling the breasts of female match officials is also exempt under these circumstances)

      b)   Old, overweight, bald Newcastle Jets players who are seen to strike opposition

players will be exempt from the disciplinary process. This exemption will be

made on the basis that he didnt mean it, particularly if the act of violence has

been perpetrated against a player from the New Zealand franchise

c)       All incidents of misconduct by any player registered with the FFA, and which

have been missed by our half-blind match officials, will be  severely

punished. This, of course, does not apply to Newcastle Jets players,

where said misconduct will be regarded as high spirited larking about and

will, therefore, be ignored and, when occurring against New Zealand teams,

       will be actively encouraged

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

And I assume he is exempt from being investigated for his blatant last man hack on Coveny because the ref gave him a yellow on the pitch.....?

From the A-League Website:

"Wellington Phoenix striker George has been cited by the FFA Match Review Commitee for Head-Butting the elbow of Newcastle Jets defender Stephen Laybutt and could find himself suspended for up to 3 weeks. The Head-Butt was so severe that it forced Laybutt to remain on the pitch for the remainder of the game.

Ricki Herbert said before departing for Fiji with the All Whites that it would be unlikely that the Club challenge the possible ban as television evidence shows Georges nose clearly making contact with Laybutt's elbow.

It is the second such head-butt incident by a Wellinton Phoenix player on an opposition player in consecutive weeks after Steven O'Dor was also cited for making his face come into contact with a Queensland Roar players boot resulting in the Roar player having blood on his bootlaces"

Can the team do anything? Like ask for him to be cited? Why has this matter seemed to be just forgotten about over all forms of media?

Quality post C-Diddy!

I don't know where the thread is, but there was one about which team should be our rival because we hate them the most (something like that), and after careful deliberation I have come to the conclusion that I hate Newcastle.

I thought Laybutt's trip on Coveny was pretty clear, even without the replay. You can just sort of see his right leg break stride briefly just before Coveny 'fouled Laybutt by deliberately forsaking a clear chance on goal and coming into contact with Laybutt's foot.'

Don't know why fouls like that are distinguished by being called 'professional' fouls. Nothing particularly professional about them in my book.

As for the elbow on George, one of the most deliberate fouls I've seen all year.

They don't play again here in Wellington unless we meet them in the play-offs [  next season and we won't forget]
