Yeah i remember hearing that Mexted thing. Realy, i think people are underestimating the prospect of a new phase in NZ sport history. It will be HUGE the first game and hopfully contunues through the season.

The Cake Tin is an away day for half the people on this site.  No flights back after the evening games  as the airport shuts at 8.30.   Might be easier to meet everyone in Sydney or Melbourne.

You can stay out all night though Edward, or the backpackers near the stadium are filthy cheap.  Plus the cheapest flights are usually the early morning ones.

Hell, nightz and I used to drive it the other way... now that was an ugly trip...

How's my driving? - Whine here

I'm seriously considering making the trip from Auckland for the first game. I reckon there will be 20K plus. Anything less than 10K for the Nix first game and I can't see them staying in the A-League for too long.

That's so negative.  We don't need that kind of attitude on here, thank you very much

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I reckon we need a footie guide to Wellington with a map showing where all the club grounds are.  Or tell us which bus to catch to each club and when the bar is open!!   I only discovered Mirimar last month because my meeting finished early and I had half a day to scoot around on buses to figure out where everything is.  I ended up in Seatoun with fish and chips on the beach, very pleasant.

If I count it up, I've spent 21 individual nights in Wellington, probably 40 individual days. Yet until last month never had time to set foot outside downtown Wgtn.  So some general education is required.

You would think if major promotion of the opening game was done, and I'm sure that will be done then the stadium should at least be half full for the season opener. The worst thing would be for someone to say "I didn't know they were playing". The message has to get out there on free-to-air, SKY, newspapers incl your own Dom, the Manawatu Standard, Daily Telegraph or Hawkes Bay Today, BOP Times, Waikato Times, Granny, The Press, ODT etc. Spread the world baby!
There will be lots of fans making the trip down, or up,  from all corners of the country I am sure especially for this first game. I'm not a fan of freebie giveaways as they never work. Tried at the Kingz many times, Knights, Waikato FC...just a waste of time and the club needs the money at the gate bigtime. Playing in a full stadium with bugger all paying customers will only lead to people expecting to get something for nothing...and sadly that seems to be the typical trait of people within the NZ footballing community. Make it user pays and if the product on the field is right then the sidelines will look after themselves. If the Phoenix can pull a crowd and win that first game then who knows what will happen. I can recall the Kingz v Carlton in the first NSL game of the 1999/2000 season. A big crowd for that home game and they lost 3-0. The crowd just gradually fell away. No secret I lost interest too, especially as the kiwi player content kept dwindling as more and more journeymen hacks came and went. We'll be wanting some more kiwis to be added to the squad. Ben Sigmund seems to have been missed or overlooked. He was Auckland City FC players player of the year and he is now in Melbourne hoping to get in with the Victory...

Just been reading the thread on away travelling fans.

As I am technically inept, would it be feasible to for some PC Guru to set up a Poll indicating where all users come from.

ie

Wellington Region (South Of Palmy-North Of Nelson )

Yes I know Nelson is in the South Island!!!

Auckland / Greater Auckland Region(Far North to Hamilton-BOP)

North Island Region (Rest Of)

South Island

Australia

Other (International)

There is method behind my madness.
One of the ideas is for organized trips collectively to Home / Away Matches in a Co-operative format .ie Non Profit !...for those interested.

Thanks
