it is an interesting discussion - if it came down to it, would people prefer us to be honest losers, or dishonest winners?  I don't buy the whole "think of the children" arguement, but I know Bevan is passionate about us playing within the spirit of the game, and I admire that (well, I admire everything about Big Bev).

I was talking to my old man about diving over the weekend, and was explaining that it is now something that just exists and has to be accepted.  My dad is even more from the old school than me (he is actually older than I am) so struggles with this, but the bottom line is if everyone else is doing it, why should we be left behind?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Things I do not like

- creating contact, especially strikers (i.e. dragging a foot onto a defender or keeper to simulate a foul)

- blatant diving (i.e. no contact at all)

What I think is now part of the game:

- buying or drawing fouls

- exaggerating contact (going down when feeling a touch, but not being tripped)

I think refs have to be a bit smarter to understand the difference

yes but how can we help them get a handle on it????

post game fines for being caught on tape so the players will be a bit more realistic????

more on field yellows that are also sometimes wrong in there application?????

or maybe a mix  of both but that could open referee's to being judged and corrected post match.

Could they acept this in an attempt to stap out the problem and get better at spotting real fouls?

i do understand the stress and amount of work the Referees have to do now and even that is getting harder as the game develops over time….

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

You can add to that...When getting the slightest touch, going down and rolling around as if a 50 cal had just penetrated your body and then making a miracle recovery when the free kick is about to be taken. Oddly enough, Jeronimo is an expert at this...as we shall all see this weekend.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Broich always does this too, he gets the arched back and everything. Jeronimo is also good for the aggressive throwing of oneself to the ground. Fucking hate that guy.

I respect NZFs policy on social media and I pretty much subscribe to it these days (after learning a couple of lessons)

By the same token, passing on what little I know on law to 'potentially educate' others, can only be a good thing. I'm happy to discuss law with anyone anytime because we need more referees and examples like Peter O'Leary and Mike Hester show you can hit the high level from NZ.

Thanks News, I'll shout you a cider.

After the weekend's game, can we now ask if we are actually too honest?  Newcastle's first goal was a perfect example of where we needed to give away a foul, but Siggy actually pulled out of any contact, deliberately avoiding contact.  It would have been a booking, but it needed to be done (and would have saved us conceeding a goal).

Having read the Jets fans forum post match you'd have thought we were Don Revie's Leed United reincarnated, the way they thought we carried on.

Couldn't see it myself.

It's a culture there though, long has been.  Tiago did the same thing a number of times when he was there as have others but the FFA have never taken action to address it.
