Ok, it is practically assured that George, Brokie and Cleberson are coming to our team.
Which will boost our team to 21 out of a 23 man squad, plus another u20 player. I'm pretty guttered we couldnt really grab a big proven name along the way but the team looks alot better than the Knights.
So im assuming the team will shape up like this:

---------------------------------------------------Paston-------------------------------------------------------------

    Dodd---------------------------------------Cleberson------------------------------------------Lochhead

     -----------------------------------------------Aloisi--------------------------------------------------------

      Ferrante/Brown--------------------------Johnsen-----------------------------------------Daniel

-------------------------------------------------Campos-------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------George----------------------Coveny--------------------------------------------

Reserves: Moss, Ferrante/Brown, Lia, O'Dor, Christie, Brownlee,Barbourousas, Brockie, Old.

It looks pretty solid to me and has heaps more depth than any professinal team we have seen in New Zealand.

4-4-2 is what I think they should play but 4-5-1 seems to be what the Knights played last year under Ricki

That team looks awesome.

We may not have a marquee player but I'd rather have 4 quality braziians than waste all that momney on one position.

riki played that fromation due to the players he hadd available at the time the formation will most likely be a different one due to the wider range of players

I'm not trying to create a stir here but how the hell are melbourne under the cap??!!!
Ok Archie is their marquee player. But fitting a costa rican international Carlos Hernandez, Socceroos Milicevic, Allsopp, Muscat, Leijer,  On top of that Joseph Keenan, Adrian Caceres and Matthew Kemp.
The salaries of Milicevic,Brebner, Muscat, Keenan, Kemp and Hernandez must be huge as they just signed or resigned their contracts this year. Plus they have other players who are on decent money too, how can they possibly be under

your forgetting we lost alot of players last year:
fred, claudinho, alessandro, ferrante, byrnes, lia, sarkies, storey, claeys, robinson to name a few.

plus the salary cap was increased last season,
so that creates plenty of space for the likes of kemp, milecivic, keenan, hernandez, and a couple of young kids on the minimum wage, to join the team.

Looks very impressive. If we complete these 2 brazilian signings Ill be very happy. Although how well the team does will depend on how well the Brazilians do.

I'd prefer Smeltz to Coveny, depending on Smeltz's performance.

Hernandez is on loan to Melbourne - so there's a chance that they aren't paying all of his wages.

surely if there was all the competition for him, they wouldnt choose the club that couldnt pay all his wages.

Well Xcellent, with that team and formation youve put together there cousin, i can confidently say i like the team and the signings so far have been reasonable, and for our first crack as a new team i think we can go out there, win a couple, lose couple, and maybe even challenge for a fourth spot.

The only problmes are, our team looks good, but so does the others...

some of the squads has the brazilians eg. george as an immediate  striker but how do we know hes that good just coz hes brazilian it doesnt mean hes good enough to start and smeltz and coveny should be good enough well just have to wait and see.

generally to end up at a club like PSV you need to have some talent. time will tell. i just hope people dont write the lad off if he has one off game.

we all need to remember there are 11 guys out there for the most part, and we cannot rely solely on the Brazilian connection, no matter how incredibly skilled they are.

I think the Phoenix need more experience because i think Aloisi is your only player who is 30+.

I think experience in the A-League will be more important than football experience in general. Thats one thing the Phoenix can learn from the Knights.

No Bunce and no Tambo is a real worry to me too.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Yeah the way Tambouras played at the end of last season I thought he would have been given a go this season for the Phoenix. Bunce and Tambouras developed a pretty good combination. Dodd is a reasonable player though, so hopefully they can get him a decent partner.

If you are only allowed to bring in 4 overseas players, one would think you'd make sure they were all good enough to be in your starting 11 - otherwise you are just wasting valuable squad spots.

Fair enough, if the Nix have signed 4 Brazilians there is always the chance that 1 or 2 might fail - however, the INTENTION will be for all of them to be in the starting 11.

[QUOTE=aussie pride]No experience at the back is worrying.

Still another 4 or 5 spots left in the squad - two competant keepers, good midfield, decent strikers - lots of opportunity to bring in defenders now.

It would have been nice to secure Tambo and maybe bunce but i think well fair without them.

As for the Korean...WTF??????

[quote=yahoo!xtra]Herbert is to trial Korean right back Ki Hyung Lee and Australian midfielder Tas Psonis in a Phoenix starting 11 which includes All Whites Glen Moss, Steven Old, Tony Lochhead, Tim Brown and Shane Smeltz -- the latter New Zealand's two-goal hero against Wales in Wrexham last month.

Ki Hyun Lee... Wonder if he's related to Sil Ky Hyun (unsure of spelling)...
Still, if he's good get him in there. Long as he doesnt wilt under crosses to the penalty area...
We can nickname him "Kimchi". Or "Taebo".

In general, I think the squad is great - we don't have big money, so just get players who want to go the hard yards, and actually gel as a team, and they could take on anyone. I prefer playing to win the thing, but before we start talking end-of-season rankings, I'm thinking more about performances that make people walk out of the RoF saying "Go the Phoenix!"...
They all seem like guys with passion and potential. I'd rather have that than Ferraris and condos in the Bahamas.

Good call progeny. It is interesting to see the difference in the style of player Ricki is signing. All the players seem to have that desire to go the hard yards and reading Aloisi's comments gives me the impression that the players are comfortable being with the Nix and playing in the Ring of Fire. A star team in the making rather than a team of stars.

And the Korean National team actually has 4 -5 Koreans as defenders and is quite a handy side in its own right.

A Korean defender would be a smart move if he can play RB.  Someone with a bit of pace down the back is needed as often A-League defences have been too big and lumbering.  Hopefully he is a similar player to Iba.

Let me tell you this, the Korean National side has the BEST defence line in Asia (before Australia join AFC), so a hardworking experienced Korean defender could be nice!

I believe actually Japan has a better defence than South Korea with Kawaguchi in goals and defenders such as Miyamoto, Tanaka and Nakata

Remember watching that Korea v NZ game a few years back and the Korean defence looked very well organised and a bit ahead of New Zealand in the way they played. Right back might well be a very good slot to fill with a Korean I'd have thought.

I also liked Kyung Ryang Kim when he played for TW - nice touches although probably not Phoenix material due to age.
