With the socceroos boss set to name his 50 man preliminary squad for the Asian cup spanning four weeks from jan 5th to the 29th depending on the socceroos making the final...
there is the possibility that North and to a lesser extent ( although i wouldnt be surpirsed at his selection) Dura could miss up to 5 games for us during this period...
These are two key players for us if we want to make a late finals charge...

What da heck are we going to do?

We'd surely get compensation for that and we could sign Vicelich maybe on a short-term?

na we will just get Lia to 'injury' Toto again so we can sign some injury cover.

C'mon, who's not excited by this?
Crowther (because Vukovich must be selected)
hearfield - siggy - musa - muscat
                     Brown   Lia
   Rojas           Ward               Ifill
                    Greeny
Subs: Gouldie, BigMac, Daniel, Pavlovich

Can he also "injury"  himself and Diego so we can get 3 injury replacements in. I'd pick The Ginga Ninja (Clapham), The Croatian Porstar (Ivan) and the new Manny (no idea who this might be)

Its no longer a problem.

North will be the only one to go, no chance for Durante and Vukovic to be selected.

Yeah, Siggy can slot in to the middle. Lochy will be back too so chuck Party All The Time in at right fullback.

Its no longer a problem.

Cant be to sure about this, I dont think Vuko will go but Dura could becasue it seems Holger Oeseink the socceroos manager seems to want to give a bigger representation from the A-league in terms of socceroos squads..

I dont think vicellich would be an option i think he is too slow for the A-league and could get horriably exposed, wouldnt be a good way to put the curtains on his impressive career..
I wonder if we could get Boyens or Beua Beush ( former Sydney man who wasnt too bad)

He wasn't exposed at the WC, which I would argue is a slightly higher level than the HAL.

That was becasue he was playing in centre midfield and international football tends to be slower...
Looked what happened when Elliot started for us, he was exposed for lack of pace...
At the world cup Elliot was fantastic...
It will be the same story with Vicellich

Only short term and if he does well for us then who knows...

I think, in this case, "Cult Figure" is a euphemism for Donkey

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Karl Whalen > Busch.

If we have to resort to that sort of signing we'd be better of signing an ASB Premiership  player.

I dont think there are any CB's in the ASB prem who would cut it at A-league level just yet...
cant think of any others at the top of my head who we could sign short term apart from Bush, Maybe Manny will have to fill in at CB with Siggy with Brown and Lia/Ward ( if fit ) in the middle
Bertos on one wing, Ifill on the other with Mac and Greenie upfront...
We should have Lochy back by then so he will obviously fill in at LB and Disco boy at RB..

                                                                       Vuko

                          Troy                   Muscat                Siggy                       Lochy

                           Ifill                       Ward/Lia         Brown                    Bertos

                                                           Mac                   Greenie

Or a diamond with Lia holding and Brown pushing on
and Ward replacing Bertos ( if fit)

Busch couldn't cut it at A-League levell.

I just think if we're goign to have someone that can't or 'might not be able to' cut it they may as well have an NZ passport.

In that case re-sign Stephen Old

Well if it did come down to losing both of them, then I'd say Musa to CB for mine. Lochhead will be back. No issue really

What's the point in having young players if when we're short we're going to take our best holding midfielder and ask him to do a job that he's not got the size or experience to handle.

Musa at CB with Manny as a holding midfielder is much more likely to be successfull than Manny at CB and Lia as a holding midfielder.

What I don't understand is the need to look at 50 players this close to the tournament. Surely 3 weeks out he should be down to 30? i.e. A squad of 22, plus about 8-10 fringe players. Especially when most, if not all, of the first 10-15 names aren't even in Australia. (Depending of course, on clubs releasing them)

If he makes the final squad it probably rules out a guest stint with the Phoenix as he'd be away for a large part of January, missing up to five A-League games.
