Will the attendance figures at the Phoenix games include the sheep who turn up?

Merry Easter everybody.

No - but if you're a sheep man I suggest you'd like the South Island.

Get with the times otter, the last convicts sent to Australia died out years ago. And no, we aren't playing at Telstra Stadium which is basically next to Silverwater Jail, so until West Sydney gets a team I'm afraid your comment merely shows your ignorance.

(just in case anybody is offended, the initial comment is just a joke.)

On the subject of ignorance... Australia has more sheep than New Zealand and your national song is about dancing with sheep and bizarre sexual practices like putting a bag over their heads...

Still, sheep jokes... always original and funny.  Ha... and may I say... ha.

Geez you really are a bit slow aren't you?  I said Aussie Stadium and having lived in Sydney for 3 years I'm perfectly aware of where Telstra Stadium is, having spent a memorable night there watching the All Blacks in that infamous 2000 Bledisloe test.

what sort of crowds do the local rugby teams average over there in wellington?

people keep saying that wellington is similar to melbourne, as in more of a sporting city, but will it sustain football and rugby teams. Melbourne holds, a rugby team, 9 afl teams, and the victory. all getting good crowds, some getting great crowds.

so if most wellingtoners are passionate rugby supprters, will there be enough people left over for the football, or is there enough interest in wellington for some people to attend both???

"On the subject of ignorance... Australia has more sheep than New Zealand and your national song is about dancing with sheep and bizarre sexual practices like putting a bag over their heads..."

Staying on the subject of ignorance, yes, we have more sheep, but not per-capita.

And Waltzing Matilda is quite a ridiculous song which most Australians don't actually like and is about a guy who steals a sheep, gets caught and so kills himself. But even if "tucker bag" has some strange sexual connotations in Kiwi slang, which i doubt, it has no meaning like that in the Australian language.

While your national dance is quite clearly miming bizarre sexual acts with sheep, both with the hand and tongue gestures, and the clearly sexual grunt sounds emitted while performing it.

"Embrace your convict heritage"
Still on the topic of ignorance, my mum's parents are from the Netherlands, while my dad's are from the Ukraine. So they clearly were not convivcts.

"Geez you really are a bit slow aren't you?  I said Aussie Stadium and having lived in Sydney for 3 years I'm perfectly aware of where Telstra Stadium is"
My point was merely that not even escaped prisoners let alone convicts could possibly attend our matches. I am well aware that you said Aussie Stadium, which I am glad you realise is not near any prisons.

"Jesus"
"Geez"
What is it with you Kiwis and blasphemy. What ever our heritage, your language is more convict-like than most Australian "convicts" I've met.

"Still, sheep jokes... always original and funny.  Ha... and may I say... ha."
Why thankyou, it is always nice to know that you are appreciated. I'm glad I brought a sunbeam of joy into your otherwise cloudy and miserable New Zealand day.

I don't see the humour in sheep jokes.( I am Australian)
But anyway, I hope that Wellington good attendence figures, by the sounds of things Wellington has a better support of Football then Auckland had.

we'll be right for crowds i reckon because we aren't  as spread out as auckland  is and it's much easier to get to the games here than in auckland and judging by the amount of talk going on around the town  most people will be keen as mustard to get along and suppport the phoenix even after the first round

as for convicts  how's david hicks doing these days??

i'm  just stiring you ba$t@rds up a bit thats all you seem to be able to take  a joke plus our pavalova recipe, phar lap oh and that band evermore

ME? How dare you insinuate that I'm a Thugby supporter!?! I'd never sing that drivel which is why I'm glad they don't usually do it a footaball matches.

Quite well actually! "One of the worlds most dangerous terrorists" according to some US officials will probably be let out of an Adelaide jail in about 9 months as long as he agrees not to keep quiet about the Americans. What a fitting punishment. The US are pretty much admitting they abused him.

What the f**k are you doing on here tintin?

All you seem to come across as is some arsehole Aussie prick who gets his jollys from pissing off people on a football teams forum, even though they have no f**king idea in hell as to who they're talking to.

--BACK TO TOPIC--

I predict 16000 people for the season opener, as the wellingtonians will want to beat Auckland and show that they can keep an A-League team. Then the average will drop to 10000.

I'd be very happy if both of these predictions came true. Your thoughts?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

I think they may be able to sneak a few more for opener if get marketing spot on and if draw suits them, and then 10k would be excellent average (but i think maybe 8-9k more likely). 33k for grand final of course.

We will get 10,000 for the season opener, and then attendance will drop to around 5,000 which will look stupid in a stadium with 30,000 empty, bright yellow seats.

Games should be at the Basin where it will be sold out every game, with fights and effigy burnings (Nana Miskouri, John Howard, Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee, etc) on the bank at every game.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

You really haven't read many of my posts have you.

Most of them are actually about football (unlike quite a number of yours).

In the ones which are slightly off topic, the Kiwis are giving as many insults as they're getting, they're fair arguments.

You don't know who you're talking to now but that doesn't seem to stop you pissing me off does it now. Hypocrite.

Now  back to topic.

"predict 16000 people for the season opener, as the wellingtonians will want to beat Auckland and show that they can keep an A-League team. Then the average will drop to 10000."

16000 would be great, but I'd say more likely 14 or 15000.

But for the average, it really just depends on how well you do. If you are stuck to the bottom of the table with barely a point or a goal I wouldn't be suprised if you only got about 6000 or less average (remember, even Newcastle got a crowd of 4000 last season when they were struggling.) But if you did well, 10000 is certainly possible.

My prediction, around what the Mariners got last year. (almost 10000)

As long as the sheep pay for their tickets I'm sure it will be perfectly okay for them to attend. It will keep the Australians amused apparently.

In the 2000's I suspect. 3000's at a push

It's on Wikipedia, look under A-League.  Both years are made to look better by the openers of just under 10k and just over 7k, and the last by the 5k for the win over Glory.

I don't get why you Aussie are amused by sheep jokes - I haven't seen any sheep in a long time and as been pointed out, you have more sheep than us.

It's not funny. Just bogans who think it is, and unfortunately there's a lot of them in Australia.

"It's not funny. Just bogans who think it is, and unfortunately there's a lot of them in Australia."

Look, it is not really meant to be a funny, ha ha ha joke. Nor is it meant to be an insult. More a "I fully realise that this is just the stereotype" good natured jibe- much as you might pay out Australians for eating our national emblem the kangaroo, when in reality the majority of Australians probably haven't even tasted it, or residents of Sydney might pay out the Central Coast as being a slum off the freeway inhabited by a bunch of bogans and pregnant teenagers.

However, unfortunately a bunch of you Kiwis are too uptight to realise this, with no sense of when a comment means offense and when it is not serious.

My comments were obviously not meant to be offensive.

These comments are obviously meant to be offensive. They are not painting a good picture of the typical New Zealander.
