One of the very best signings made by the Nix.

imo just keep looking at that until the comments get negative. When that happens Ifill is a goner.

btw I like how she has 'jermaineDefoe' as her friend. I know he's a Spurs player but surely even he can spell his own name properly?

Is there any chance that Ifill wants the Marquee spot, and take that away from Fred?

whats the rules on having a player in a team regarding the cap, whats to stop Terry employing his wife at say 300k a year or giving them a house and then pay Paul within the cap?

It works for Gold Coast.  Dioggies got hammered for it in the NRL but the A-League turn a blind eye.

Having said that, we've seen nothing saying Ifill's contract demands are beyond what we can afford in the cap.  A lot of assumption in here.

For sure, but if i comes to the stage where its down to something like that would the club do it?

Hope not, not a good look at all, and there are plenty of people in Aus who would happily kick us out of the league with an excuse like that.
You know we belong together...

That's a good point actually.

How much do we reckon we are actually paying Ifill?

He has mentioned the 'package' on offer at Wellington was good (I think I read that??) so perhaps we have already sorted him out a flat / car etc on top of his wage?

My gut feeling is that he would not be actively seeking a move to another A-League club and if we were to reject any kind of offer, then he would be fine with it.

If I'm not mistaken the flat/car would come under the cap anyway.

But others are saying on this thread that Gold Coast have used this type of thing to get around the wage cap - i.e. buying players houses and the likes?

had the privelege of briefly meeting the great man today (no, not you Coxey

I was on my way to the dentist but the chance to shake the hand of the best player in the A-league and tell him how thankful I was that he chose to play in this town made my day

What did Paul have to say?

Did you ask any hard questions? ie Are you staying in Wellington?

I am not worried about him going to another  A League team, its the mddle east clubs which have a peak at the A league that will be looking seriously at him. And we wont come anywhere near meeting the money they will offer.

Also a good injury free year and the uk might start having a look at him, after all he is only 29.

Will be interesting to see what the release on the website says, would give a pretty big indication if Fred is coming I would think.

My Friday just got that much better, let's sing our hearts out for him this Sunday (even though we would anyway)

Edit: haha, just noticed my updated status. Nice work mods. (even if it does put an unusual amount of pressure on a spectator)joachim2009-11-06 16:10:46

www.wellingtonphoenix.com.au has the story now. No mention of what status he has been given and what this means for any deal with Fred.

Edit: Sorry Tony

[QUOTE=Article]Making the decision even easier for Ifill was how well his partner, Elle, and their three-year-old daughter, Romy, had settled in the New Zealand capital.

They love it here and that makes my life so much easier. Elle looks after everything at home and all I have to go out and do is play football, so its not much to ask. The clubs made it so easy for us and I was conscious that if I moved I might not find a great bunch of people were have here, from the players and coaches to club management and the fans .

He's clearly seen the look of Joy in Tiger's misty eyes, gone back to Terry and said "where's the pen, mate".
