The Sydney Morning Herald reports this morning that Lawrie McKinna has made a formal approach to sign Paul Ifill and that North Queensland also appear to have made enquiries.  Boo!  Stay in Wellington Paul!

Surely he wouldn't move to another A league franchise. If he moves to a club overseas, can't do much about it. I think he would be a little old for that though.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Had thought until the transfer window opens, other clubs are not allowed to even so much as talk to contracted players? He's still signed to us until next year, but after that...

What length contract is he on?

Phoenix said 2 years when we signed him but would now appear to be 1 year with an option for 1 more...

One year, with an option for a second if I'm not mistaken. Although the club are currently in discussions with him regarding a longer contract.

He seems to read the questions  posted to his blog. Perhaps  some messages asking him to stay would be useful ..... need to tell him how we feel!!!

On a similar topic, Daniel's article in today's Dom Post talks about the big offer from Qatar which the Phoenix couldn't match but he decided to stay anyway because he likes it here so much. Now the rest of his family are coming out as well.

I feel hopeful that PI (with a young family) may feel the same vibes ...

WELLINGTON Phoenix FCs striking stocks have been boosted significantly with the signing for Barbados international and former Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace marksman Paul Ifill.

The 29-year-old British-born Barbadian international will join the Phoenix for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 campaign to kick off his two-year deal with the Wellington-based club.

At 184cm, Ifill is set to be the perfect striking partner for fellow Briton and ex-Tranmere Rovers scorer Chris Greenacre, offering an excellent target option for Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert.

Can't say that I'm not surprised by this. Ifill must surely be a leading contender for the Joe Marston Medal, if not the leading contender for it.

Don't know why Ifill would move to another A-League club and/or why we'd let him go. I mean, he's enjoying Wellington is he not? If he leaves us, it's to an overseas club for more $$$$$$ than we can possibly afford.

STAY PAUL!!!

Does anyone else think that it's absolutely ridiculous that as soon as we get a player who starts playing well for us (or any team in the a-league for that matter) some other club with more $$ comes in and poaches them? Almost makes you want players in your team to play well, but not so well that they get noticed.

Whoa. Big Call there WARZYCHA...

Ifill has been the instigator of most of the goals this season so far. Daniel is playing well too and I think Caceras will still feature if he picks up his work rate.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if Ifill left, but it's just so much sweeter with him in it!

who in the nz teams is better than Ifill? He's lclearly the best import player in the league, adds huge amounts to our attack and genral play, I'd like to think he'd stay on as one of the fan faves. From the noise I've been hearing the nix are looking to offer him a new 3 year deal instead of the 1 year option to extend.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Congratulations, you are now officially Moron of the week.

The Wellington Phoenix are not here to benefit New Zealand football. A side effect of the club is that they do but ultimately they are a club who should aim to put the best players on the park.

Many Australian's (and ACL members) don't wan't us in the league and Xenophobic comments calling "Ausy" players trashy are ridiculous.

Actually, Wellington Phoenix are here to benefit New Zealand Football. Pretty sure that was one of the reasons Terry put his dosh in. But yes, I do agree that they should put the best players on the park (Ifill!).

No matter how loyal he is, another shot at playing at a high level of football will be hard to refuse
