Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei
Let me introduce myself I am a Central Coast Mariner Supporter. However I lived in Whangerie (hope I spelt that right) for almost five years so have a soft spot if that is possible for you Kiwis.
I am a sad football tragic who has supported a New Zealand Team from day one I guess from my days in the winter less north (bull s**t it rained every day).
I even correspond regularly with Michael Brown NZ Herald on football on a fairly regular basic.
Must congratulate whoever put this site together its WBP (worlds best practice) and the support you Wellies guys are giving I take my hats off to you.
Now all the kiss arse has been done its time for you guys to admit your mistake or at least provide a please explain.
We ARE THE YELLOW FOOTBALL TEAM not a Johnny comes lately Phoenix. So why when your colours are black mainly do you copy our name, shame on you. However typical of Kiwis pinching a good Aussie idea and claiming for their own.
For the record our team song from day one is
In our hearts, and
on our chest
We always wear, the famous crest
And Lawrie's men, they make us proud
And that is why, WE SING IT LOUD
WE ALL FOLLOW A YELLOW FOOTBALL TEAM!

good question. my answers:
- yellow is our 'defining' colour - black and white are barely colours and yellow sets wellington aside from the rest of the country
- there is a strong groundswell of opinion that yellow should feature predominantly on the kit - watch for a big push from the YF boys at the end of the season
I lived in Komo (sorry about the spelling) I was F***ing amazed when I when there 1984 to 1989 25, 000 people and it had about seven I think suburbias, Morning Side, Komo, Regent, Tiki Punga (hopeless spelt) the place out near the airport, sorry forgot the rest, blame the booze. However great town loved the Harbour and the town centre and the beautiful park next to the car park in the town centre it had a clock in it. Is the park still there and the clock. Coming from Sydney 4.5 million people to a place like Whangarei it was amazing and I enjoyed myself no end. We plan to go back one day and spend some time there. But still seven suburbias in a small town blow me away.
PS Jeremy Christie needs a medal coming from Northland and playing football took some guts. When I was there it was Sheilas Wogs and poofters who played soccer real men played rugby.

took me 2 years to be able to spell Wellingdong
Black and yellow have been Wellington's sporting colours for some time and are used by many of its teams. For starters, you'll see it in the Wellington Football Club, Wellington Hurricanes (Super 14 rugby) and Wellington Lions (NPC rugby), and Wellington Firebirds (cricket) teams' strips. Some of these clubs have been using black and yellow for over a hundred years.
Don't know if there's a historian out there who knows more but I'm pretty sure black and yellow were our old provincial colours and remained in cultural and sporting use after the abolition of provincial government in 1876.
Not that it's a contest, but I think we might have been using black and yellow first...
Midfielder: do you know more about the origin of yellow in the CCM strip?
Oh, and just in case you want to nick our sporting monikers too: we hereby bags rights to Lions, Phoenixes, and Firebirds. You're welcome to call yourselves Marinaters and I don't think there's much chance of anyone else copying that... :-)
