Club not appealing.

That's a ridiculous decision.

they have to pay sh*t loads to appeal, and if they lose they have to pay more. (that's how it used to work anyway)

I thought there was a cost if you appealed, if you were successful it got reduced, if not the ban was extended. But no extra cost if it was unsuccessful.simon_hampton2009-12-08 17:55:48

Obvioiusly the club doesn't think they will reduce the ban so they aren't going to appeal. Fair enough.

Crux of the matter was Siggy behaved badly and copped the 3-match ban.

Captain was right in calling for discipline from players and set a good example to other footballers.

If you get beaten by opposing palyer, don't lash out or hurt her or pastoral chop him. Be disciplined, admire opposing player's skill and go back to the drawing board and work even harder. Otherwise, go and play another sport.

Funny how most people are blaming the commentators etc.
What a lod of crap. How about blaming Sigmund for being a w**ker and letting his team mates and supporters down.
One should take responsibity for ones actions.
It make me want to throw up?

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Being fair is not letting your mates down, which he has.
I think he is a w**ker.

It's Leggy.  At his advanced years sarcasm and humour can fly over his head, but we love the cantankerous old bloke anyway.

He's like that granddad that goes off on sudden swear laden rants and then comes back down afterwards.

How's my driving? - Whine here

I do get off my soap=box quickly, but I do get annoyed whem people make excuses for players who have 'cheated', or if you prefer are thugs.

Hugs for thugs

If Siggy had ripped Leijer's head right off and mounted it on the wall I'd still love him to bits. A little bit of the pleasure I get from watching the Nix will be missing for the next 3 weeks.

Yeah, no point moaning about this one. If someone twatted one of our players in the mouth no matter how half-heartedly we'd be screaming for a ban and probably boo every touch they make next time. Just hope Durante doesn't get another card.

I just find it ridiculous that Leijer can blatantly headbutt Sigmund's fist like that, then have Siggy punished for it!

the amount of whinging and bitching that went on here when Kruse fouled Bertos a few months ago was embarrassing.  Sure, we all hate Kruse and all that but there was absolutely no perspective and people were calling for 3 match bans depsite the fact that it was only a booking.  Now one of our players does something which is always going to be deemed as worse (punching is always seen as worse on a football field as there is no way to argue it - a bad tackle can just be mistimed, a player can slip while going into it, etc) and everyone is now complaining that the whole world is against us.

I agree, the punch was blatant, unneccessery and uncalled for, our sport is not rugby so lets move on.

Kruse's tackle was an act of savagery that merited a red card.  As for Siggy's punch, yeah it was stupid and what a dumbarse thing to do.  In all honesty, while I think Siggy did that on purpose, that type of thing can easily happen when jostling for a corner so it's still feeling like a rough punishment.

So, what caused it ?

I mean Siggy is the most laid back person in the world and for him to smack someone he has been provoked, but I guess as the TV cameras missed it and our 'biased' commentators didn't talk it up that will be ignored.

HN, you know more than anyone a punch is a punch no matter what. If Leijer or anyone else had said soemthing than Sigmund should not have punched him.

The Sky commentators picked up on the punch and basically said "the FFA will look into it no doubt"

They can't do much more than that.

Really????

You honestly think that Kruse was lucky to get away with a terrible challenge, and Siggy was unlucky????

People should never compare the Kruse and Sigmund incident

1: The Kruse incident was dealth with at the time on the field. Rightfully or (as most agree) wrongfully he got a yellow card for this. I think the majority agree he should have had a straight red meaning two weeks.
2: Siggys punch was not dealt with on field. Had it been so, he would have a red and a penalty, meaning a 2 match ban for straight red and a penalty.

Either way, regardless of force or intent, they have no place in the game.

Grumpy old bastard alert

I whinged and bitched at Kruse coz it was a f**king atrocious tackle, and did deserve three weeks, it was worse to me than Sigmunds punch, but I definitely agree with you that those that did that and are now defending Sigmund are hypocrites.  He punched the bloke, got caught, time to move on. (Although he didn't deserve a week more than Miller, but thats another story.)

I second that. Does he think he's doing a radio commentary of a Rugby game?

I don't think Dewhurst's too bad. Certainly a long, long way from the worst I've heard (SBS and Setanta have some absolute plonkers).

Don't know how Jason Pine would go as a TV commentator but the radio boys are excellent - they really bring the game alive. Which reminds me, David Chote provoked paroxysms of barely suppressed schoolboy giggling in the commentary box last week by declaring that the highly irritating Michael Hester "loves to stick it in his mouth and blow it".

Which is all a bit off topic, sorry.

Wouldn't worry about it.  Better than the actual topic.
