He knows how much love he gets in here in Wellington, so to say he
wants to stay in some dump 6 months after publicly saying he wanted
to join the Nix is insulting! P**S OFF LEO! We'll be fine with
Daniel on the wing.

who's Bertos?
I like tautologies because I like them.

He's probably just saying that in case a deal with the nix falls
through. Get onside with the new coach and all
Permalink

Lets look at the bright side. He would compete with Daniel
and perhaps Lockhead. Plus one more player out when AW duties
call.
And after our record against Perth this year, we should encourage them to change as little as possible.

Maybe we can get a good strike partner for smeltz

He doesn't say anything negative about the Phoenix, just that he'd
want to stay with his current club. That's loyalty to his team, not
betrayal to his hometown, and is not a bad thing - I'd respect
anyone electing to re-sign at their team. It's merely article spin
that makes him look bad.
And as Pacwarior pointed out, we've already got class left side players in Daniel and Lochhead already. Bertos is IMHO a want-to-have, not a need-to-have. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him in black and yellow, but I'm not going to cut up my season pass if he spends another season in purple.
Plus the article says Sydney is the favourite to host the Fiji match...correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the match supposed to stay in the OFC?

He doesnt say anything - that headline is outright provocation. of
course he says he staying. you dont tell 442 you're buggaring off
with 4 games to play, whether you are or not. he said the only
thing he could. but decided to post it bc they called him a star
and bc we like 442 writing about kiwis.

He can piss off.

If he has decided to stay I am bitterly disapointed but like guys
have pointed out he could just be being diplomatic. I hope thats
the case, he's a versatile player and while we don't NEED him he
would be a great addition and he'd quickly become a YF favourite of
course.

He's one of the better players in the league and he's a kiwi, of
course we want him. I can't believe how fickle and naive people are
here sometimes...

tbh it's probably the better choice for him to stay in Perth. He's
certain to start there but he has to compete with Daniel/Lochy
here. He could play striker ( he links up well with Smeltz ) but I
don't think that really suits him. I'd love to see him at the Nix
but looking at our squad we don't really NEED him. We NEED a right
back.
Yeah, one person posting in this thread said something stupid and everyone is fickle and naive.

wow, i find it quite amusing that u guys are all loving him and
calling for his signature in practically every bs transfer wish

its mainly that we dont want him if hes gonna say he wants to play
for us but when this coach comes along his intentions change.

Just covering our asses no matter what happens!
If he signs great we couldn't do without him
if he can't glory can have him he wasn't so great anyway

sigh, and what else could he possibly say in that situation? if it is his intention to come here, no professional in their right mind would tell a reporter who would spin like that he wanted to come here as soon as his contract goes.

I've never said we NEED him, we need better specialist Defenders
and a Striker more than we need Bertos it's just the he'd add a lot
of depth and could possibly play that support role up front with
Smeltz.
And the thing is, if he signs again for Perth then he'll probably be getting more game time than he would here which is potetially a good thing for the AW's.

i think he;d be a good addition but it's not like it's the end of
the world if he stays. Really we have plenty of midfielders and we
need to boost our defence up in the off season.

Er...I don't think anyone has ever seed we 'need' him - just that he would be a good pickup and that we thought he would be a certainty to come anyway. If he doesn't I truly don't think it will be a huge loss. Obviously it'd be awesome if he came but if he doesn't...meh? We have Daniel and Lochhead and I don't really see how Bertos would fit in at the moment - unless he plays striker.

I reckon that since scoring that goal Leo's gone all starry-eyed:
it's his first time and suddenly he's in love. Well, if he stays at
Perth good luck to him. Still think he would be a huge asset for
the Phoenix, so I hope we press hard to get him over here.
Lochhead's a good enough midfielder but Bertos is superior, in
fact he's more consistent than Daniel too, though without the goal
scoring knack. Come HOME, Leo!

After reading that article again I think it doesn't mean sh*t -
even if Bertos was quoted correctly (and it wasn't just made
up).
Of course he isn't going to say he will leave Perth before the seasons over. We'll only really know when the season is over.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
We ave enough midfielders who get nose bleeds when they get
infront of goal, don't need anymore. Also the fact that he is
another All white player, we ave for more than
enough already.
Need another finisher and a solid denfender..

I think he's just being diplomatic and keeping his options
open. Like the true professional he is.

His work rate is very good both going forward and helping in
defence, it was interesting the change in Perths team performance
when he came back. Their was a definite lift in the team.
He did not lead the assists last year for no reason.

well, what was the reason then??
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

When the Glory kept losing, Bertos wanted out, when they finally
started winning, he wants to stay.

omg.. please thats a pathetic response and u know it, just take a moment and think about his position, and then think, would a pro footballer really tell his club if he was leaving or not 4 weeks before the season is over? ffs dude, think about it before u post drivel like hat

that leaves us with only one question then
how much wood would a woodchuck chuck
if a woodchuk could chuck wood

Did the improvement in the Perth performance not coincide with
Bertos coming back from injury?

and chuck as much wood as a woodchuck would chuck

Bertos on the left and Elrich on the right feeding Smeltz and a new
striker - could be good. Might mean Daniel to the bench
though.
