Best and Worst of HOME season

Was thinking about this on the way out yesterday, given it was the last home game of the season, and there've been a lot of highlights along the way.  I know there's still more to come in the season but the away games aren't the same given that the vast majority of us aren't there (kudos to those who do travel away).

In the spirit of the Guardian's excellent Joy of Six column, some highlights for me in no particular order and knowing there are plenty more.  the idea is to relive/share, not rank really....

- bertos scoring against perth.  got things underway.
- greenacre's goal against gold coast, got the biggest roar of the 6.  he needed it badly at the time.
- giving smeltz heaps in same game, and getting a wave.

lowlights:

- obviously, palmie.  i've never felt quite so dismal as i did sitting there in the wind, not able to even hear the YF as their efforts went whizzing away to the hills to be turned into electricity by the local windfarm.  it never seemed even likely we'd snatch anything out of that horrible evening.
- late concession v NQF.  it had been coming as we sat back a bit, but I still swore extremely loudly to the embarrasment of my six year daughter.

I've actually got pretty fond memories of Palmy. We stayed in the same hotel as both teams, Spent an hour in the Bar where Rickie and the players spoke to and made a fuss of our kids for sometime.

Took photos with both Ifill and Bertos & the kids in the lobby, and we waved off the team bus with flags as they left for the field. It was all pretty magic. We still have the Ifill photo on the fridge.

ooh, and there we saw some creepy euro sydney bloke (Keller>) trying pretty hard to pull the waitress at breakfast. (with moderate success, but it was actually tragicly creepy).

Oh yeah, the football sucked, but as far as a weekend, it was pretty memorable.

Ok my personal highlights: every single goal the Nix scored; making the finals.

Lowlights: Palmy, LOL! I live there (well, just out of) and was amped for the game, man Palmy didn't turn on anything for that match

Highlights - The loudest crowd being the smallest one, on the cold, wet and very late midweek game.  It's all about the solidarity.

- The weather at the second NQF game.  That was something bloody special (as was getting the shirt off on the balcony of a corp box when McKain got his header in).

Lowlights - Excessively negative people sitting behind us in the crowd.

- The first NQF game (which was the only one I missed due to a first aid course, so mabe that should be a highlight, by all accounts

Highlights - many but top of the list; seeing a city taken over by football fever and a team come together with many players growing through the course of the season.

Lowlights - snatching draws from the jaws of victory.

P.S. Seeing my parents, both in their 70s, dancing like teenagers when Ifill scored the winner yesterday would be right up there as well.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Highlights:
The two home Finals matches.
Being unbeaten in ALL the HOME games at the HOME of the Phoenix, the RoF.
Getting the players to autograph my 'nix T-shirt
Players acknowledging the Yellow Fever during the season
See the look on the players' faces when they saw the Tim Brown and Manny Moosecat t-shirts

Lowlights:
The AWAY 'home' games in Palmy and CHCH.
The Ring of Dirt in general as a sports venue.
The sh*t game in Palmy breaking our unbeaten "home" record
The sh*t newbie referees we always seemed to get.
The number of draws, mostly through very late equalisers.

And seeing our team wear a stripey strip that best represents the values, , and principles of our club.  Would Paul Ifill have caused the mayhem, destruction and general taking of the proverbial in the 2007-09 monstrosity?  I don't think so.

Highlights:

1.Newcastle in the wet and cold in November
2.The 0-0 with CCM in September (an awful game, enormous winds and whining Northern Hemisphere types behind me, but in spite of it all I enjoyed sitting with my daughters relaxing and watching footie)
3.  The 3-0 over CCM in round 27 and the Ifill masterclass.
4.  Not having to go to penalties again last Sunday.

Lowlights:

1.  NQF, 94th minute equaliser
2.  Melbourne Victory 1-1
3.  Watching Perth again in the first playoff having avoided them since season 1.

LOL! It's not too bad, I live 9km from Palmy but work in town - too many rugby boofheads at work for my liking harping on about the horrorcanes and crap like that.

Highlights
The walk from the BB to the RoF before the match. Reminds me so much of walking to games in Europe.
First view of the pitch walking out Aisle 21 before the match. The stadium is just fantastic on all counts (no better illustrated than when compared to Palmy - see below)
6-0 vs Gold Coast
Eugene Dadi's overhead kick

Lows
Palmy. And I live 30 mins away from it and was sooo looking forward to that match. Result = crap weather, crap result, the seating/terrace for the Fever Zone was bloody awful if not downright dangerous and the views were even worse. I love the city but never, never, never play a Nix game there ever again.
Ban Palmy!!
PLAY ALL HOME GAMES AT THE ROF!!!!!!

Highlights:
- 7-0 aggregate against Gold Coast United.
- Becoming "Australia's Team" - seeing all the well-wishes from other teams fans during the playoffs, both in my inbox and on FFT
- BAHRAIN (Okay it's not technically Nix, so sue me)
- Queenstown. sh*t crowd, sh*t atmosphere, but brilliant climate, gorgeous backdrop, my first away trip, and getting applauded by the Nix and Victory players at the post-match function.

Lowlights:
- Ring of Dirt
- Dickheads at the Jest semi. Almost had to get security onto them.
- Being unable to afford Christchurch. CURSE YOU STUDENT BUDGET.
- Having Jess Vanstratten in the same city. Bastard.
