Which Phoenix player has pleasantly surprised you the most? I mean some of these guys came with big wraps and we expected them to be good.

For me it is Karl Dodd. Never heard of him, never heard anything special said about him, but he has deliveered each week.

Lochhead and Christie for me, not counting the Brazilians

Speaking as a very poor left back (a decade ago) who got out of breath approaching the halfway line it has been fantastic to see Lockhead so influential fromthe fullback spot. Reminds me of one of the Hair Bear Bunch too.

moss - didn't think he would ever see the goal line

I agree- didn't think Moss would see much game time. Lochead and Dodd continue to impress, also have to admit that I though Coveny was past it, proved my wrong last week. Also big ups to the Brazilians (esp Daniel and Felipe- obviously), keep showing fantastic ability.

sh*t, why don't I just name the whole team...

Moss and Christie.

Three for me, and two for them.

the most pleasant surprise is having a whole team worth applauding - worst case would be turning up just to support the initiative of a professional football team in Wellington, so it's all been a bonus.

And thinking back, there was Aloisi who had departed Adelaide on bad terms (or so I read), Johnson facing ignominy due to personal problems, Brazilians picked from just watching DVD's, the list of things that could cause the whole effort to fall apart are endless.

And what is really good is that we are yet to see the best of the players - Ferrante is just getting into his stride (what a different player he was in the Glory game), George is yet to make his mark on the field (not sufficient time on the park) and if Clebo's exuberance can be usefully channelled we'll see a lot more of him.

For me its Christie & Lochead.

I was once a person who wondered why Ricki signed up Christie...now i know why.

and after the QE2 game i was highly dissapointed with Tony, he has to be a strong contender for the POTY (if this form continues). seems to get better each game

Not to mention Tim Brown who has played about 15 minutes (and looked pretty good), Vince Lia and Ahmad Elrich. The team is getting better every week.

For me Christie and O'Dor. After the CCM game I would not have been surprised not to see O'Dor on the park ever again but he was clearly playing out of position and didn't get much help from Ferrante. Since moving to the middle he has looked pretty solid and combines well with Dodd.

From OZ, without doubt your best player Terry Serepisos.

Terry appears to be creating a super club, by having faith in his coach, overcoming the failure of previous NZ teams, in a rugby WC year, in rugby mad NZ, it is an awesome achievement.

The guy from hear seems to have it all, and has gained the nix and Wellie in general huge cred!!

Terry may not play on the field but the matches he plays off the field make him NZ sports administrator of the decade.

Terry is good for NZ football, but he is also very good for the A-League.

PS you have Mariners support to have Robbie Slatter be headed at half time in your next match, he realy is a prick re some of your earlier threads

Lockhead has been class - very promising for the All Whites.

I dont think Aloisi gets enough credit; he plays that role of cleaning up and providing 1 and 2 metre passes to colleagues. Not flashy but very vital. I have been surprised how good he is at that role. He has also kept his cool which is also a bit of a surprise!

Although I was in pretty good form @ the lounge a few weeks back, must go for the duo of christie & lochead - i have been well impressed with them. but its a hard question, i could go on about moss, brazil, aloisi, the team etc etc.

I vote for Daniel - odd misplaced pass aside he seems to have a good workrate and a good first touch.  After the Knights imports I was a bit sceptical about what we were going to get but Daniel has been a real eye opener.  It's his consistency which gets him my vote ahead of Felipe.  Lochhead is close but I expected things from him so hence Daniel being the surprise.

What else could he have done?

Michael Ferrante......he started out poorly, missed a few vital shots at goal and got far too much flack on here but is now finding his groove very nicely - bear in mind he was injured a lot of last season.  I pick him to have a great game vs the Roar as he looked good when he came on for last 15 vs Glory.  I can't wait for MF to slot into the back of the net in front of YF......I'll go nuts!!!!

Vince Lia when he finally gets on the park - he will be a big player for us later this season!

Plodder, easily. I was aghast when Ricky signed him, but he's played very well and has locked up the right back spot.

Lochead has to be a big surprise, mind you i think the back four have been a surprise package. all in the good sense. The biggest surprise is that we are starting to dominate games, which i thought that it would'nt happen till later in the season, or next season. Well done lads

As mentioned, Aloisi has been the rock that the Knights lacked last year in midfield. Lochead has been outstanding on the left, those runs down the wing relieve so much pressure and at the same time create opportunities.

Daniel and Fellipe providing all the class up front with Smeltz doing the dirty work. Can't complain about anyone really.

He will be lucky to play again after getting clattered by that big donkey Herbert  mid season at Karori!! another inch higher and he would have copped it in the cheque book!!

I think at this stage we could say either Lochhead, Daniel, Felipe, Smeltz, Dodd, Ferrante or Christie because i remember when the team was getting signed we were bagging most of these guys. I mean there was excitement for Daniel and to a lesser extent Felipe. We were wondering if Lochhead was up to the level. 90% of us hated plodder, were wondering who the hell Karl Dodd was. And wondering why we signed a guy from the conference league. BUT they have all been great.
