In a 'sidelines article' this morning in the DomPost Sport supplement Jim Kayes tells the tale of a Yellow Fever's details being given to the "Phoenix" because of dispariging comments made about the team and administration. The issue here could be that the rules were not followed...Rule 4... sl*gging officials and players etc, but I would have thought simply ending the thread or a stern email would have suffice? I feel that giving out bloggers details to the MAN undermines a sense of open debate and a little emotion in future posts (I dont do many but read alot of them) and though I wont be 'sl*gging' I will keep in mind that I might not always be known as 'topiary' to the MAN. Thoughts?

Fair cop, but it does raise a point feverish- how pvt is the forum- how safe are our details?

If you put your name in your profile, anyone can see it. Same with your email (or anything else you put in your profile - it's in a database somewhere)

Apart from that, if you're really worried about privacy, you need to use a free email client (ie Gmail) and surf through a proxy that does stuff to your IP.

Internet privacy is almost non-existant otherwise (not too sure on what the law says about releasing IPs and "hidden" email addresses though).

I dont know who most of the people on here are - so pretty safe!

Sidelines also mocked feverites and their slandering of the thundersticks.

fair point  wasn't talking so much about the electronic privacy, sure if Phoneix bosses join YF then they can post and be accountable too (like Tony P and other nix brass), more an ethical question perhaps, a human decision to pass on details that have been given in good faith.

He's sl*gging us off cos he's worried/jealous of what football has here - cos he hates the game. To blatantly lie in the paper is a bit low.

What a tool. I hope the letters to the editor page is flooded with complaints from YFs demanding an explanation as to why the City's best supporter group (of any code I'd hazard a guess) is seen as fair game for mud slinging by some jumped up little nobody.

..and that is the point.

A couple of people have been 'outed', but purely because others have looked at the public details (like name) and what they have posted and made a reasonable guess.  Usually they quickly change the name they have registered with and pretend they never did it, but by that stage they have left it too late.

I was there when the folks in the Phoenix office figured out who Gary Abblett was and it didn't come from anyone here.  Just logic as they figured out it was an AFL addict,voicing the same views as Matt does regularly in coversations with them...  nice of Matt and Jim to promote the Union party line though...

...I wonder if they get paid a marketing sum by them ?

Yellow Fever got absolutely torn apart this morning in SIdelines.

I think he has a point re: privacy - that is pretty shit if true that private details were given out in an unauthorised manner.

As for thundersticks, well there'll always be people on here whingeing regardless of what happens as it seems to be in the football fan's psyche for some reason (possibly too many old, English fans).

It's the Internet. No such thing as "private" details.

Just relax lads...Life must be terrible for you all if you take things so personally...

That's no excuse for giving out "private" details, if this indeed did happen.

NP Hard Hews, I understand that it must be frustrating to put effort into something and then have someone attempt to sl*g it off. At the end of the day it's all opinions though really.

to be completly honest reading his 11 posts theres nothing as bad as any other joe average writes on here. sure one of his posts refers to tony signing muscat because hes from melbourne but thats really about it - hardly a case for the phoenix to be getting up in arms about it - really its just bad publicity for both the phoenix and yellow fever that both don't need with the start to the season we have had and someones horrible decision to play 90% of games on sunday. bobboltontawa22008-08-29 10:49:31

Well I'm sure you've already prepared a response with the aim of rebutting the comments via next week's edition of Sidelines. At least I hope you have, rather than arguing with me on the forum.

I was there when it happened.

The Phoenix were not having a witch hunt or anything, people were having a chuckle and someone said 'Big AFL fan' and offering those views.  Someone else said 'it'll be Matt Buck...' and they had a laugh.

Then Tony P replied later that evening to one of his posts calling him Matt.

The Phoenix didn't call us demanding to know who it was, and we didn't run to the Phoenix to tell them.  To people who know Matt (and he worked for the Phoenix last year) it was pretty easy for them to figure out it was him.

Kayes will read this thread. He'll realise he was wrong. The question is whether he tries to justify things in his own mind and manufactures some rationale for not setting the record straight.

Im done on this now. Nothing left to say.

I feel sorry for Matt -as he's good man - and drinking buddies with some of the Nix mgmt - but now Jim Kayes has gone and made him the focal point of a newspaper article and a forum thread that might give people a dodgy opinion of him if they were to ever meet him.
