Brett Taylor from Leopold Method analyses Morgan's call for 'total football'

Leopold Method is an online football site who write articles mainly to do with the A-league and A-league match analysis (tactical match reports). I do recommend it for anyone interested

I tipped them off about Morgan's recent comments and suggested it as a good opportunity for an article and they duly responded:

Fairly critical response, what do people think?

Nice article that.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Quite a balanced article that does not let Gareth or Rickie of the hook. Basically does not say anything we did not know already. Rickie is a limited coach, lots of his players are limited, Gareth may be expecting too much etc etc. The basic line has not changed for me. The Nix have only won three out of the first 11 game of the season.....that is not good enough. If I was owner of the club I would be having a bitch as well. Why shouldn't he demand better. OK the Total football thing was a bit naff but the bottom line does not change.....the Nix are having a shiite season....fair enough the pressure goes on the guy in charge!

Good points about the likes of Lia and Smith. I really think that if we want a title-winning squad we need a Sanchez/Stein-quality backbone to the team with a '09/10' Ifill-quality gamebreaker or two, rather than having a Lia/Smith quality backbone and relying on Sanchez/Stein-quality gamebreakers.

I think the best piece of credibility towards this article is that it's come from a neutral. It's not from a Phoenix fan or a respect NZ media person or someone from the club. It's from outside and for me that speaks volumes (but also backs up what the rest of us have been saying)

lost credibility with me when he said

you don’t see Ben Sigmund busting out Cruyff turns

sure I saw Siggie get to the byline and beat a player!!

Interesting article. Doesnt change for me the right of the owner/s to publicly state that he/they want to win the league and that he has noticed that we play a boring style which he doesnt see us winning the league with, and that isnt good enough for him either. He hasnt got the naming right for the football purists, big deal

It has woken RIcki up (a bit), that is a good thing

Great assesment. Not just because I generally agree, but that it was a genuine neutral view and eloquently written. I just hope Welnix read this.

But how to stop Ricki dropping off to sleep again? It could be tempting for him to slip back into the 'tried and true' (boring) habits of old if attempts to change prove too difficult.

although the results aren't there yet I do like what we're doing, and hopefully things fall into place for us soon, the talent is there and ricki generally has his teams peaking toward the end of competitions

if our squad played to the best of our ability we can beat anyone in this league in my opinion, I hope we realise that potential soon

Very good analysis. Interesting too the key role played by Cunningham.....he really has turned out to be a good pickup. It will be interesting to see who out of Hicks or Ridenton step into Kennys position when he is away. Neither are quite yet at his ability

Crap analysis. They have it all wrong. They also spelt it Gui Finkler too. They should listen to Dewhurst more and get the correct names
