Couldn't find one in the last 10 or so pages so why not start one for the young right back.

superb since he’s had to be called upon. Really hope he’s given a new deal, was especially impressed with him last night.

Have so enjoyed watching him get his chance and shine. The patience to sit for so long in the Handa Premiership and not get game time says much for his character. Well done Callan.

It does raise for me a niggle I have though, in that when our local talent is given the chance they come through, yet so many Aussies get the chance at the expense of the locals. Just look at Payne, TAW, McCowatt, Elliott etc as examples of local given the chance this year. Have enjoyed that too.

Not really fair not everyone can sign for the Phoenix and and we certainly shouldnt be signing players just for the sake of it. Think our recent record of giving Kiwi players a go is  good. Dont forget there are also Kiwi players who have been offered contracts but prefer to take their chances elsewhere.

Also given the investment the Phoenix have in the youth Academy not really sure you have any grounds for a niggle.

I'm bullish on signing players because they're Kiwi and young, but Callan looks to bring something on that right side. I'd give him another year if I had the authority.

What I have like about Elliott is he seems to like to drive into the box (like Carcace) which is so hard to defend against. He doesn't have the change of pace Libby has, but maybe has more technical ability.

I'm excited to see how he kicks on.

No doubt he will get a contract extension.

If he does, we may see Fenton look to move on. Rudan is a big fan of his and I can see him adding value to a couple aussie teams. But for me, he is now third choice behind Payne and Elliott.

Callan's attitude has been top notch. Not getting a sniff early on, he worked and worked, got his chance and has grabbed it. Looks one hell of a prospect. More than a one-year deal, surely.

I'd definitely want to give him more than just a one year deal

Great article. My first thought was man we have a great academy, followed by Oh shark! I know financially things are really hard now but the sooner we are able to resume the academy's activities, the better.
I'd even be happy if a good chunk of Libby's transfer fee went into that endeavor

i mean, he was 17-18 his breakout season and played centre/attacking mid. Has improved a lot!

Can he play left back?

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Can he play striker?

He has played left back for the NZ U20s I think, but he is right footed. A conversion to a LB might be an option with the depth we have at RB at the moment...

If he can improve on the way he drove into the box during the few games he's played he might score a few cutting in from the left... providing he can hit the target

"As well as signing Elliot and Australians Josh Brilliante, Matt Jurman and Paul Izzo, it’s understood Xanthi made an approach with Phoenix striker David Ball, however the Englishman looks set to continue his career in Wellington after also knocking back interest from Bolton Wanderers."
