CHANGE OF DATES FOR PHOENIX GAMES

Two Wellington Phoenix fixtures in March have been rescheduled.

The round 21 match against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium has been moved from Sunday, March 2 at 5pm NZ time to Thursday February 27 at 9.30pm NZ time.

The switch has been made due to Fox broadcast requirements.

The round 25 fixture, in which the Phoenix host Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium, has been moved from Saturday, March 29 at 5pm NZT to Sunday, March 30 at 3pm NZT.

It has been rescheduled due to the New Zealand Warriors wishing to play in Wellington.

Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the club was agreeable to the change as the Phoenix are keen to trial a 3pm Sunday afternoon kick off which is a family friendly time.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Why can't the Worriers play on the Sunday?

I seem to recall at the start of the season, there was much fanfare made about having numerous games on a saturday. They would be Christchurch, Auckland, two at RoF & this one. So we essentially have two games on a saturday. Big fucking deal.

Trading a 5pm Saturday game for a 3pm Sunday one is pretty shit I think. Certainly for the boozers amongst us (hands up) you've got to be pretty committed to get on the lagers on a Sunday arvo. It's a test of commitment.

Much better for families.

Better for families, worse for boozers and out of town travelers.

Fuck this stupid game

The warriors website has their game on the Sunday at 2pm. Obviously the NRL has more pull with FOX than the A-League.

It's the out of towners that come off worse.

5pm on a Saturday is a good time for families.

So the warriors were originally scheduled for the sunday at 2pm, but the warriors (from the looks of it) wanted it moved to the saturday so more people from around the country could go. http://www.warriors.co.nz/news-display/Schedule-change-for-Wellington/89926

“In consultation with the Warriors and broadcaster FOX SPORTS we have agreed to move the game,” NRL Head of Football, Mr Todd Greenberg, said.

“The new timeslot will give more fans the chance to travel to Wellington from across New Zealand for the match and it will make for a Super Saturday night of viewing on FOX SPORTS.”

In other words  "Fuck You Phoenix"

Great way to increase the crowds for the Nix!

We've had 2 games in the past on Sunday 3pm. Averaging almost 10k. Saturday games between 5 and 6 have been just over 6K.

Also interesting that the game was originally on the sunday at 7:30 then it was moved to the saturday, due to the fan reaction wanting more saturday games. then only for it to move back to sunday albeit now at 3. you'd probably say the 3 o'clock kickoff is better than the original 7:30 kickoff.

Time for the marketing team for the Warriors and Phoenix to use some common sense and brain power and offer a 2 ticket for one price deal to entice people to both.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Not sure there is much overlap in the demographics but it would be great to see some cross promotion come from this. Chance to see two games as a double header over the weekend.

A similar deal they target us wellingtonians with for a breakers/nix double header would be a good idea.

A ticket deal would be great - may even entice me to see the Warriors in Wellyfornia for the first time ever... having said that, I don't s'pose it'll work with/for season ticket holders lol

Used to happen at Mt Smart with Kingz and Warriors. The Warriors lot thought we footie supporters were real party people: singing? banners? Jeez guys...

Warriors may have paid the Nix something to let them take their slot on the Saturday, making it better financially for the nix to move or is this not how it works?

Planning to come down for this game and this has screwed up my travel plans somewhat but, leaving out the booze angle. I can see the benefits for us. A decent KO time on a Sunday should enable us to get more kids/families in and a 2 for 1 deal with tix to our game and the Warriors might also help to swell the numbers. History seems to show we get good crowds in that KO slot.

I'm taking one for the team on this, if we get a big (or noticeably bigger than average) crowd in then it's all worth it.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

So if you book the stadium they can just move you to another slot with no compensation?

Clubs in either competition don't choose/dictate their match times (or days for that matter). It will have had to have been approved by the governing body - and in the NRL (and probably a-league too) also the broadcaster/s. Then the clubs (and their opponents) would have to agree to the change (schedule change affects prep/recovery also logistics getting in and out of Wellyfornia)... the stadium were probably the last to know (besides us of course lol).

Much more complex than the Warriors flicking the Nix a hundy (pesos, suids, or kegs) to cool their jets (no pun intended) til the next day.

Just thinking - if the Warriors get a big crowd, will there be a huge debate on the league forums about whether to move to Wellington permanently?

No but it'll probably stir up reports about Wellington bidding for a place in the NRL again.

I travel from Palmerston North and 3pm is way better than 7pm or 7-30pm on a Sunday.
David Dome saying they wanted to experiment with a 3pm time slot but I thought our times were dictated by Australian TV or is that what time they gave us?

Never really has before when they've played in Wellington. I think they, and the fans, realise that one-off games tend to pull bigger crowds.

Shame we didn't have a smaller cheaper stadium for them to play in...

30,116 attended the game last season.

When the Stadium to get those sort of crowds, it normally means there is a lot of people traveling into Wellington from the lower North island. If we could offer them a chance to see two games at a good price, we could maybe add a few thousand to our crowd.

So you're basically saying that league fans are more intelligent than football fans?
