Feel sorry for all of us fans...I laughed when the commentators said Ricki was consistent in his selection...why we need to lose again and again to prove something wrong!? It was so obvious that our team/tactics are not working, it's CHANGE OR DIE time and here is what I thought for our starting 11:
North = He is a Centre Back, end of story, HE IS NOT A RIGHT BACK Nor RIGHT MIDFIELDER, simply use him with Dura in the centre or just dump him PLZ, he just got lost at Right back, lost marked man and lost going forward...isn't this obvious guys?
Elliot = I know he hit the post tonight, but I don't think that would change my view on him, you don't need a 36 years old standing 10m in front of the goal to pass a ball to midfielders, Elliot + Brown + Lia, all 3 of them at the same time is just a big FAIL, too similar in style and lack of pace and creativity. Any opposition midfield with pace and technique could tear through our midfield easily.
Greenie = He is poacher NOT a target man, god why Ricki is still using him alone up front after 2 seasons...how many times do we need to see him beaten in the air...

A naive but genuine question: Have other teams got faster since the last season?
We have always p!ssed around when we have the ball and rarely play quick short passes, but this season we turn the ball over too many times and we seem to get really cut up by Adelaide, Roar and now CCM with their speed (and very neat passing).

The whole midfield needs to change..if Elliott is going to slot into the defensive midfielder playing in front of the back fout then either Lia or Brown has to go to allow a forward type of midfield for the ball to be played to...our one trick pony tactic of using the wings is too predictable now and with Ifill out of sorts and Leo picking and choosing when he is getting involved other teams have it easy to stifle the attacks

That's what I meant, I'm not saying who's crap individually, North and Elliot are quality players, no doubt, but it is obvious that our current team and current game plan is not working at the moment, it's either you change something or field in the same 11 and hoping that one of our boys could hit a super strike every week to win the game, our current game plan which is to attack through wingers and bomb long balls to Greenie is def not working.

There are some basic problems with the team at the moment, most of which have been documented well by the OP.
Defence is fragile this year, we miss McKain at the back and Lochhead being injured isn;t helping either, time to put North in at centre half with Durante and give them a chance together.
We need Manny back in the midfield to provide some energy and pace in there which is sorely lacking, playing Elliot/Brown/Lia is possible the most imobile midfield in the league! I like Lia but he has been off the boil this season, Brown, other than his goals, is allowing the games to pass him by, it's not working. Ward must be a first choice in the engine room IMHO.
Up front ,Ifill is not up to the form of last year, plus the opposition have worked out he is our main/only threat still! Leo hit some good form following the All Whites games, seems to be drifting off again, and I feel sorry for Greenie, works his socks off and is an intelligent player being asked to lead the line which is not his game. Give him some help up front!
Time to empty a few players I think and try get better in to balance the squad, and get Rikki to stop signing midfielders and perhaps get a right back in! If not give Lia a shot there, can't be any worse than Siggi or Hearfield in the position...

I am real keen for Ricki to try the following:
Vukovic
Muscat North Durante Lochhead(when fit)
Ward
Ifill Toto Daniel
Greenacre Pavlovic
Bench: Sigmund Rojas McAllister
Someone referred to whether Ricki had hair down below to make required changes well going with the above cannot get any worse and is angled at spicing up the midfield where we are getting nailed.
Pavlovic shows the hunger needed.
We are leaky goals everywhere and when we have Muscat and Lochhead at full backs we have played our best!!

I think Vukovic was a good buy as I am not tha confident in Paston and that goes back to dat dot, he is a good keeper but I always felt Moss was better and now we have Vukovic I would play him instead.
Also I think Elliot was a waste of money as betweenMuscat, Ward, Brown and Lia we should have one who can stay in form to play DM.
Nothing to do with age, he is marginally better than the other 3, I just think we have to many on the payroll in that position.

Would not underestimate the impact Reddy had on the team last year. Personally not a big Paston fan and would favour playing Vukovic. I would certainly not miss the Paston long ball distribution to Greenacre who for a shortish striker does a hell of a job competing for these.

North plays as a central defender for the Socceroos, he and Durante's famous league winning partnership was in the centre of defence, and he was brought in as a replacement for Jon McKain (who was a central defender). So why the fcuk does Ricki persist in playing him as a fullback?! FFS that isn't his position and we all know it!

Because lochead is injured so our only other options are siggy (who is too slow for fullback,but been ok at centre defense) or hearfield who is worse than siggy and north.

I think overall we get more benefit with siggy in the middle and north on the wing,rather than the other way round.
But can see how one could have the opposing opinion. It's a pretty close call. Either way not significant enough to be a poor decision that's contributing to our failings.

I think the other teams have got faster. faster decision making, faster passing of the ball, and the best teams have a couple of guys in their teams who have pure speed.
I honestly think Rickis tactical naiveity and inability to motivate people is coming through more and more.
adelaide, CCm and brisbane all are quality teams, because they have a coach who has built a system and style of play around the players they have. Plus they all have players are are willing to put in 110% and all buy in to what the coach is doing.
we have a midfield system from 3 years ago that hasn't changed, we have a small guy front being the target man, and we have our ball playing midfieldders either playing as a DM (elliott) or not even in the squad (ward).
watching the Heart v roar second half last night was magic, and hightlighted just how far off the pace we are. (missed the 1st half unfortunately)

Was a great game to watch, in fact most games were this weekend (apart from the Nix) but you're right, it does show up what we're lacking.
If we dont have pace & youth, we need to be solid in our passing, crisp, sharp and wily.
We're currently none of those.
Plus, we like to 'soak up the pressure'. Watching most of the games, when they went 1 up, they didn't sit back and soak it up, they took it to the opposition again and again, until they were several goals up.goldienz2010-11-15 13:48:00
