The A-League finals are being rescheduled to accommodate the Socceroos' World Cup qualification match on February 6.

FFA chief executive officer Ben Buckley said the move was necessary as the original A-League schedule would have had the World Cup match fall in the middle of the finals.

The semi-finals originally set for the 1st and 3rd of February will now be played on the 8th and 10th.

The A-League Preliminary Final will be on February 17 with the Grand Final now scheduled for Sunday, February 24.

Yeah, they change the A-League schedule when there is a clash with an Australian qualifier. They need to do the same for All White games too.

Remember we are a NZ team in an australian competition. So we will not be treated equally. But you are right we shouldn`t be playing when the All Whites play in a FIFA window.

As Ricki said though, Sydney were missing 5 to the Australian side for the Argentina game, if they don't get it (with the Lowy links) we're not likely to.

 - don't see what the Australian concern is about the timing of the finals - there's only going to be one Australian side involved ....

Go the Nix !!!!

Yes, to be precise the second leg of the semis, the prelim semi and the final. So there should be three Aussie teams involved overall before we come down to one.

But what point were you making wellyphoenixfan? Someone had already observed it was the finals - or have I misunderstood what you mean?

My point was that the finals need to be good quality as you need the best players playing. The finals are also the most watched and a good way to promote the A-League. Also like the Super 14 All Blacks were taken out for the first 6 rounds not the semis and final. So basically there is less importance on round-robin games then finals so if we loss a RR game because of it we can make up for it later in the season while in the finals losing a game can make the second leg harder on the players. Do you get what I mean?wellyphoenixfan2007-10-02 16:25:22

Yes, now I do - the FFA should/could only re-arrange the playoffs. I still think the A-League should observe the international calendar like other leagues do. It's the highest level of competition in Australia and NZ. The top divisions in Europe all observe the calendar and I believe the other continents do too - though I don't know to be sure.

Why were those all blacks missing? I don't follow or even like rugby, but I'm curious - was it only NZ teams that were effected?

The Grand final is played at the home ground of the first team to make it to the Grand Final

It works like this.

Week 1 of Finals  3 V 4
                             1 V 2

Week 2 of finals  4 V 3
                            1 V 2

The looser of the two games of the 3 V 4 is out,the winner of 3 V 4 plays the looser of the 1 V 2. The winner of 1 V 2 goes to the grand final and has home ground advantage.

Therefore

Week 3

Winner 3 V 4   VS  Looser 1 V 2 (looser 1 V 2 gets home ground advantage)

Week 4

Winner 1 V 2 Vrs winner of week 3.

Also as mentioned the winner 1 V 2 will get the home grand final.

In the first week of the finals the higher team dedcided what game they wish to make the home game. So in 1 V 2, the team coming first would deciede if it wanted the first or second week as the home ground
