I was just wondering, cause I can't seem to figure it out for the life of me, why does Greenacre stand so blatanly offside in the box before free kicks, and then run back as soon as the ball is kicked? Wtf is the point of doing that??

More importantly, his blog on the Tranmere Rovers cowshed website was supposed to happen in August. It's now October.

Why is that more important?

So he stands offside to lose his marker? If he had a marker he wouldn't be offside.

It's always nice hearing from the players and his previous blogs were good reads.

Also Paul Ifill's blog website is no more...

Refs disallow Greenacres goals because he has a reputation of being offside. It's getting really annoying.

He has a marker in the defensive line.  But it is easier to get in the blind spot of the marker if he is 3 or 3 metres away from him.  If you watch him run back onside, he quite often doesn't get picked up by a marker.

Him running back onside means he's running away from the goal, what good is that?

No. Because he does it before the kick is taken.  So he can make the usual run towards goal as he would if he stood in the defensiveline.

When do they?  I can think of one goal which has been disallowed (against Heart), and that was in a completely different situation to what you've described.  He was on the end of a cross in open play.

When have the others been?

Does no one else notice this??

I notice that he does it on freekicks. I dont see the confusion,or problem with it...

The problem is that he's running away from the goal and so cannot score.

But he then runs toward goal and does score...often unmarked...Its an arced run
I think you need to watch him more closely next time we have a freekick, instead of just seeing him standing in an offside position and saying "what is he doing" before taking your eye off him to watch the ball.Tegal2010-10-10 21:48:15

What he does is very clever, he starts 2-3m away from his marker and then returns to an offside position just before the freekick is taken, great way to cause confusion in the box and he hasn't been pinged for offside on a singe occasion for it. Non issue really, but that's already been covered by 2ndbest.
