agreed, Rojas was incredible, I wasn't expecting much but he was just really skillful! Deserves a starting lineup.

I feel a bit sorry for him though - I thought he was like Manny, consistently good, but he's on the bench now..

Agree. He was fantastic.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

That was what we call a glaring "what if" moment tonight.

He works his tail off.  Is perpetually unlucky.  Then that "what if" moment happens.

At least he was in the right place at the right time. The other 'positive' was Daniel's cross, it was a beauty.

He was thinking of pie and how good it is.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Exactly. Greenacre works his arse off creating space and trying to feed on the sraps. Daniels cross was pretty much the perfect delivery.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Greenie does work his ass off, but he needs to work off someone. I wish Ricki would realise this, and try it even just one more time.

god loves a trier, but i don't know if having a workhorse for a lone striker is the best way of getting results

Given the players we have in the squad, I don't know if playing anyone as a lone striker is the best way to get results.

I think Greenacre does a decent job, in very difficult circumstances.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

agree

this was more a criticism of tactics than greenie

i would go further and say that not only are the tactics wrong, but they are poorly deployed, resulting in a massive distance between greenie and the midfield 5.

things changed with ifil up front, but only because he played too deep

DMac should be playing with Greenie. 4-4-2 ftw, when this has happened we play our best football.

DMac should be playing with Greenie. 4-4-2 ftw, when this has happened we play our best football.

Interestingly, when Dylan has started we have won 1, drawn 1 and lost twice. He has never finished a game he has started being subbed off at the 72, 93, 66 and 45 minutes.

With Dylan starting we average 1.5 goals per game (only 4 games including 3 all draw with GCU and 2 nil win against CCM heavily influencing that), 12.5 attempted shots, 5.5 shots on target and 49% possession.

Without Dylan starting we average 1.1 goals per game, 12.3 attempted shots, 5.0 shots on target and 49.9% possession. We have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 8.

I have created an excel file if anyone wants to have have a look at the analysis. https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B1qllNkZCmG-M2RkMGQyODEtYjE4NS00NWRiLTkxY2ItZGUwODQzODU0MmY2&hl=en&authkey=CJ-Q4q0G (hopefully no errors)

I wonder how much thought was given pre GC game to playing Dmac and Greenie together. Crappy pitch and constant rain might have suited playing them. They certainly did the business together in the wet at the ROF early season.

The midfield showed little interest in creative play...they just seemed to want to rough up the GC. Could have been a good night for a bit of long ball stuff.

If Greenie is played again solo up front one more time I am going to tear up my season pass. It has not worked so FFS stop doing it. Wrong sort of player for that role. A-League defenses are full of big aggresive CB's. Greenie has no show by himself.

Imo Greenie would be scoring more if we could walk the ball through the centre of the park but we can't we have no creativity or skill to move the ball through the middle setting him up on through balls. I think he'd be far better off having Dmac as a target man and have Greenie run off him our only attack is down the flanks and whip it in, i've said it before Greenie is too short for that  unless it's on a plate which it was saturday but, sh*t happens

Was class last night and ran his bollocks off again as usual. Helped having Big Mac there to handle Topor-Stanley.

Yes, definitely plays better in that situation. Playing him alone is a waste of time, on 2 occassions I have seen him really blossom and both times was with Big Mac.

If you only watch tv you will be left with the impression he does not do much. Watch game live he does so much off the ball and his work rate is second to none. Go CG.

^^^ Agreed.
But what will be his role in the club next year?
Will he play or exclusively coach?
And for the Nix or a part of the coming academy?

I spoke to him at length after the pre season game in Tauranga while he waited for his flight. He said back then that he expected his game time this season to be limited but was having to play due to injuries and the squad size. He is really excited about coaching and said if the club offered him a 10 year contract tomorrow, he would take it in a heartbeat. He said he loves the club, loves Wellington and him and his wife are really happy here.
He instantly became my favourite player after that.

He still has a lot to offer the Phoenix but with the reduced import quota, it might have to be off the park. A Player/Coach role in a Phoenix development squad in the ASB Premiership (if we ever get one that is) would be a perfect role. Keep him fit in case we need injury cover and help guide young players to the main squad.

^^ That sounds good!
He'd only be able to injury cover imports though.

The sooner we can find a way to get him to an A licence course the better.
The Herald article says that he plans to get NZ citizenship, so maybe that won't be an issue for much longer?
"It's been a surprise to everyone [that I've played every game] but I've thoroughly enjoyed it," said Greenacre, who plans to gain New Zealand citizenship and stay for the medium term. "You don't want your playing days to end and I'm no different. It's been fantastic, especially as it's been a good year, and to know I've played a big part is humbling."

Was just thinking that today. We could potentially get him and Ifill citizenship and no longer imports?

How had I overlooked this??

Daniel signed in July 2007, and became a NZ citizen in Dec 2008. But on the internal affairs website, it says you need to have lived in NZ for 5 years.
