Do we need a new coach? Paint it any way you like make all the excuses you like we still ended bottom, any other club would be having a serious look at the coach but we can't soccer nz well throw there toys out of the cot.

No.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Who would you suggest? Chris Milicich? With Sex Dawkins running the show?

Three for me, and two for them.

Yes - Sack Herbert!

You are right any other coach would have been sacked!  Bottom again - he doesnt look tough enough and makes some stupid decisions!  Why sub Smeltz with 10mins to go (our best scorer) when we are 1 nil down!

See it didn't take some of our friends at ACFC long to get their fishing rods out....

And almost instantly we have one of our best chances to equalise...

Next year will be when he should be properly judged. Then he will have the team he wants (presumably) and we will see if he has chosen well enough by their ability and if he has coached them well enough by their results. I'm hoping he gets it right on both counts.

Good on Ricki for giving everyone a run in the last game, weird taking Smeltzie off but still its hardly cause to sack him.

Rafa Benitez to replace him? XD

No. This season isn't about winning the league, it's about creating consistency and laying the foundations to create a club capable of competing in the post season for years to come. Replacing Ricki would undo all that. Give him a few years to bring his vision for the club to fruition and then take it from there. This season does not reflect the capabilites of the Phoenix staff, Ricki included - remember that we had a short time span to create a team from players not signed by the other 7 clubs or other leagues. If the Phoenix organisation started on the same day the Knights folded, that could have made the difference.

Next year will be a far better indicator of the ability of our management team, as we now have a proper off-season to focus on building the team and have a much larger pool of better quality players to pick from. But until then, any changes of management staff should do far more harm than good.

Some threads just arent worth responding to.

Some, like this, are just worth laughing at the creater

Ummm this is hard for me. I mean Ricki is making some dumb ass descisions but we need to give it time. If next year we are still making the same defensive mistakes and still doing stupid errors then he must go.

One question though, is it the coach or the players?

Yea harrys got it pretty right, I think some descions have been fairly average but he always said 2nd season finish was important for the club and that they were building toward that and to fire him now would be completely stupid.
However i think a few desicions have left a bit to be desired- With a goal needed to avoid the wooden spoon wouldn't you bring on felipe earlier to score one rather than give a youth player a run?

You have to think about the time he has had to get this squad together. There was ALWAYS going to be deficiencies. Just like there was for every other A-League team in the first season.

Man, are we ever lucky that we have a guy like Terry S to put some serious cash and effort into this club? Imagine if the NZ rep side was being run like the Kingz/Knights - no money, no vision, no clue......

You can't stand still in this league, that pre-purchase estimate of - what was it? 3 million or something to run a team is just the minimum isn't it to be even competitive.

Actually considering he wants to fire a recently appointed coach, I think rugby league might be more his game

He needs to pick up his game a lot does Ricki.

Areas of concern for me are team selections & tactical substitutions.  Bringing guys on for 10 mins is a joke when the team has been over run the whole game.  Its happened most of the season too.

at rough count its about 85-90% clear "no"

5 to10% maybe we should be concerned if things don't improve next season

5% little mischief makers

sounds to me like your question has been answered

if people want to start a thread that looks at coaching decisions without this impish bullsh*t about sacking it might generate some discussion that's sustainable
