We need an Aussie who knows the local leagues over there well

I heard (quite surprisingly) that Wynton was to be offered a job and that he is currently sniffing around in Wellington.

How about the choice of Ricki as coach? What do people think about him (obviously not many would have personal experience of him I guess)?

Is he the right choice?
Will he mould the right team?
Will prospects want to join the Phoenix to play for him?
Can he handle the task of head coach and All White coach??

Wynton would be great. Maybe somebody knows something I don't, but the Kingz still looked like they had potential right up until the Fallon/Rufer "discrepancy". Still, I'll believe it when I see it.

Ricki might have trouble coaching everything at once, but he's probably the man with the most connections at the moment, the best rep, and a good mind for the Kiwi game. Sure a big shot from Europe would certainly help, but lets just get the ball rolling first. It took Sydney this long to get Culina...

Can't see Rufer playing second fiddle to Herbert.

Tua has the golden touch, but, I agree, connections and knowledge of A-League important - especially in first year. Jacobs won't have that either.

mich d'avry could be an option he coached perth when they won the league a couple of times. When the a league started d'avry decided not to coach the team and becmae their technical manager but i dont think hes there any more he has knowledge of the nsl and the a league.

I vote for Colin Tuaa out of that list, I think connecting Wynton with the club would be great for contacts and potential signings but as someone previously posted can you see him wanting to be anything but No. 1

Colin has been there with Ricki at the end of last season so lets continue a proven combination.

But Colin wasnt his first choice.  Thats not to say they didnt do a good job and wont contunie to do a good job.
The main thing is that they  have someone who is going to be available when Ricki has All White commitments.

I agree with Nembo, we need a addition that knows the ins and outs of Australian football, i mean we are a new team, and a bit of inside info never hurt.

Yeah looking at the Knights Victorian Premier League signings they were not to flash, but in saying that it was a big deal when the Brazilian was his name Fernando?? when he signed on short term deal.
As a lot of people from OZ had been shocked he was not not picked up by one of their teams as apparently he was the best player in the VPL.

Yeah and he was sh*te

Personally I'm a fan of Stu Jacobs. But I can see the ratinoale behind employing an Aussie assistant. Good thing is the coachign staff don't take up palyer wage bill.

Thats my point exactly, if all the aussies were raving about this guy and he was crap what is the point in having an aussie coach/director etc just go advise on the NSW and VPL for talent?

Lets stick with our own coaches and if we need signings fly someone in house to monitor those leagues for our own opinion on particular players.

Last season the Knights had an Aussie agent/scout looking for players for them - mixed results I suppose - Salley & Johnson were good but some of the others lacked what it takes.

Yea but someone who knows the aussies in and out would be great. Can assist Ricki, like 'him at the back, if put under pressure he'll break', or 'wind him up and he'll get him self sent off'

Krncevic? Just make sure he leaves his green suit at home.

I heard that not only O'Dor but Diaco as well might be signed from the Victorian League. Can't see Ricky doing much back in the A-League to be honest.

Diaco - he was at the MV first season right? Looked like he knew where the key to the pie cabinet was.

Not as fat as he was then but still nothing more than a state league player.
