I'm sure I heard a while back that Paul Parker (former QPR/Man U player) would be commentating for the Sky Sports team for Welly games?

Anyone know what happened to that? He was on Fox Sports FC about a month or so ago and was pretty funny - not sure how he'd go as a commentator but has to be better than Dewhurst.

I don't mind Dewhurst, although he is a bit suave and newsreader-ish to be a good commentator. I sort of miss the old Fred and Harry Show - lots of larfs there.

Jason Pine would be best. I'd listen to the radio commentary via internet but it's always out of synch with the TV pictures, which is too irritating to put up with.

I'm sure Fred and Harry are both nice guys, but all the stumbling and bumbling in their commentating outweighed the humour. Strictly amateur-hour-and-a-bit. Dewhurst is a solid professional, but not first team quality.

It would be great if this country could unearth a really outstanding football commentator for Nix games and internationals.

Didn't the BBC run the equivalent of a 'Football Commentor's Idol' quest a couple of decades ago?
As I recall, the winner was just a regular fan with a great knowledge of the game, but also a 'natural' behind the mike who went on to a long and successful commentating career.

Anyone else remember him?

Hack, I remember that Parker mentioned he was "living part time" in Darwin, Fox Sports found it a pain to get him to Sydney for that weekend, but that could be a reason why he hasn't worked for the NZ coverage yet...

By the way, we get the Sky Sports feed here for the Wellington home games, can you blokes hire other blokes to commentate??? :) :) :)

Piney would be outstanding! Have you listened to Newstalk ZB for a home game? Very, Very good. Take note Sky! Andrew Dewhurst goes alright though.
How bout Piney commentating with Miles Davis on comments.
