The Cronuses.
Well done Phoenix. Everyone wrote you off at the start of the season but you have given NZ football some credibility after the disaster of the Knights. Football is now fashionable again thanks to you. Who would have thought that a football team would be lead story on both major TV channels sports news and also numerous appearances on Close Up and Campbell Live.
Lets do it all again in 2010/2011.

Thank you NIX for how you played this year and how you inspired us to be the leagues best spectators. You have done us proud and hope you feel likewise and together next season we'll worry the aussies even more. Congrats

Just to add, I think Ricki Herbert said it perfectly last night. Last week we got 32 odd thou at Wellington. Sydney... Sydney could only get what 13,000 for a qualifying final? We got like 90,000 over our last 4 home games, how many other NZ franchises can do that, frankly, aside from the Brisbane Broncos how many Australian professional sporting franchises can achieve that?
Remember, four-five years ago the New Zealand Knights IMO were basically destroying NZ soccer. We kept playing poor imports, coupled with very average Australians and some Kiwi pensioners, and Auckland... a city of over a million was getting like 1-2,000 per game. Then Ricki comes in, and the Knights win a few.
We now are in the World Cup, we've gone to our first finals series, and we have put football on the map in NZ. If anyone here said to you in your last four games you'd get 90 thousand people, if anyone here said to you you'd go to the major qualifying final and one of the reasons you'd lose would be a hand of God incident, how many of you would put your hand out, shake it and think you'd won the lottery? The odds of what's happened in NZ Football happening the way it did is absolutely outrageous.
Viva la Nix, thanks to the ROF and all the supporters, and lets hope we get that license and sanity prevails.

Echoeing pretty much everything said by everyone on here. So proud of our team on and off the field.
Thanks to YF, I've made some new friends and kept up to date with the goings on. Cause if I wasn't on this site, I wouldn't have a clue.
I've even had a few friends who have said let me know when you get your season tickets renewed cause we are seriously thinking of joining you. I have a feeling we'll have more new season ticket holders in 2010/2011 and hopefully a reserve team in the NZFC.
Take a bow and oh Phoenix we love you.

Exactly. Heroes. Fighters. All season. Most people wrote us off, but that was a truly wonderful season. Makes me extremely proud to have watched you every week. Hold your heads up high. Pride. Fearless.

Congratulations Phoenix on doing so well this season. Thankfully hav ethe World Cup this year to fill the gap before next season starts.
It's the highlight of my week for me my son to watch your games every week.
This season's performance is an excellent platform for next season - with such a credible team is will make it easier to reruit new players, retain those coming off contract, and also remember the unease we all had about the club losig a sponsor until Sony came to the party - well it will be easier to get a sponsor now, bigger crowds, more season ticket holders - bring on next season!

I've been there on a crap night when just over 4k made it, I've been there when crowd attendance figures were smashed to pieces. I've been to practices and all along I have seen this team grow and mature over the last three seasons. A tweak here,a tweak there, players moving in and players moving on. It's been good to see this club improving season by season, game by game. The attitude of the team/squad towards the fans has been awesome, genuine and warmly received.
We've come 3rd, not bad considering the slagging we copped from certain other managers and members of the media. I'm proud of our club and our team. I'm proud of the achievements, proud of the attitude. Everyone has played their role/part and the fans and the team have responded.
Who knows what will happen now, who might leave and who might join, but the basis is there for an awesome job. Led brilliantly by Terry's enthusiasm, guided by Ricki's total love of the game, and marshalled by an inspirational captain. The Wellington Phoenix are the total package. One I will be following next season.
Well done Phoenix, you have truely risen from the ashes and done yourselves and us fans proud. Next season I am hoping the fans come to the ROF in numbers, It would be so cool to average about 14k. The players have fronted up and delivered finals football, us fans now need to front up and support them even more.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Well said mate. I'd add Tony Pignata to that, too. I knew Terry Serepisos and Ross Aloisi at the start were fair dinkum, but then you come into this forum and the club's CEO is integrating with the fans and discussing the important situations, skull duggery rumours or plain fact, and you realise these guys care about integrating the sporting team with the supporters, and it was then that I realised New Zealand Football, courtesy of Ricki's efforts, were going to explode. I've been a Warriors supporter for a long long time and I can't imagine anyone of any official capacity at the Warriors club getting involved like that with the web supporters. That to me is special, and it struck me then that this is a community, from top to bottom, we all wear our hearts on the sleeve.

Amen to the first post and this thread. A really fantastic season and good on you the players, Ricki + coaches, Sir Terry + management and the great fans this club has. You have all done yourselves proud!!!
So glad to have made it down for the Jets game, a great sporting occasion that will stick in my fond memories for sometime.
Can't wait for the Phoenix to take flight again next season! Oh Wellington is wonderful.
We'll deal with P*yne when he visits the RoF next season :@.

Preseason there was a YF opinion poll and people were asked what they wanted out of the season.....Most of us were modest, saying things like; hope we make the playoffs(6th) hope we play more attractive football, hope we get a few more along to the games.
I will bet that even in our wildest dreams we would not have imagined the season we have just had. The city, the country have been transfixed by the Nix for the last month as the incredible ride through the playoffs occurred. It has been a wonderful time to be a football fan. A time I never thought possible in NZ.
So A BIG BIG THANKS to everyone involved.
Things will get even better....bigger crowds, more sponsors, better players.....can't wait until the next season kicks off.
To the Team, the fans, the coaches...everyone....I salute you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone make sure Tony, Ricki, Terry and the players receive this thread?
Thanks to all of them, it has been an excellent ride this season. It is so fantastic to see the growth in the game in Wellington and NZ this year, and two very important points have been made:
1. The Nix magnificent contributor to the A-League (well said by Andy Harper during the game last night by the way - thanks Harps
), and are beneficial to both Australian and New Zealand football. An excellent win-win situation.
2. Wellington fully deserves to have the Nix permanently. Wellington fans are awesome.

Great season!
Sang Phoenix till I die after every penalty possibly pissing off all the other punters in barfifa against Perth and saw Terry in Fox's (he left at halftime!) when we lost to Perth away. Fortunately he didn't see that penalty! We were always going to beat the Jets at home, no doubts.
Next season it would be great to see a Phoenix youth team in the NZFC mix and some New Zealand players really put their hands up for a place in the 'Nix. It's a pity to lose a favourite like Costa who started to show what he could do in combination with Ifill.
Oh yeah and smash the Sydney hoodoo and keep Gold Coast as our bunnies.
Great year from Captain, Coach, CEO and the Boss. Thanks heaps. Everyone was on top of their game.
So long until the pre-season!
We love you Phoenix we do!

A fanstastic season from you all, what an amazing institute the ring of fire has become.
Something epecially amazing and something to proud of is now kids who play football are no longer pretending to be David Beckham or Torres etc. but instead Tim Brown, Leo Bertos etc.
A real achievement.
Well done.

Lets go one better next season.

I have been to two other away games over the past years and although the result was not in our favor. This was the best
one yet. The extra nix fans, the atmosphere at the pub before hand and the good nature of the SFC fans who joined in the fun at the Pub. And the openness of the team on the way home, all made the $$ cost seem cheap.
