Still a lot of quality in the squad - a couple of decent foreigners and we'll be back up there.

Funny that Phoenix is spelt and pronounced Phoenix in cyrilic. I didn't know that.

Wooden spoon for def mainly because we've got no home games, and we saw how well that worked out at the end of last season.

Major major difference in that players can have their families with them this time. They will also just do whole thing better 3rd time round, re player's mental health, getting time away from football etc.

Nix on & off the field are far more settled, than the likes of Newcastle & CCM. WSW also.

Don't see point getting all fired up about Royz, but his angle is just tediously dull and boring now. Get some new material, or just stop altogether. Or try writing the same slop in Russian or something, that would be interesting for awhile.

I think my comments are justified and not trolling. We do have a weak squad atm compared to other A-League squads, And I'm putting it out there that maybe Talay wants to spend more money but the Nix said no so we have to resort to youth this season and maybe Brockie.

Or it could be that you are talking out of your arse, have no idea what is happening in the back rooms with the owners/Taley and forget that the salary cap for the league (that itself is without a major sponsor currently) has gone backwards to the same level it was 10 years ago.

Reports suggests that Brockie is currently on trials with Newcastle Jets, and apparently wants to help rebuild the club. Very unlikely that we will be getting him unless Jets are gone for good.

Was a lot better at Roar so hopefully Talay can get that same form out of him.

True, and he was decent before he left us and most of us were sad to see him go - hopefully he hits good form. Probably better in that 8 role than the 6. I don't think his passing is great, but he's good at running into the box.

Assuming we sign Hemed and a Visa CB. Hopefully we find one that can also cover LB

Huge, re-signing DeVere is massive for us. Bring in Hemed and hopefully another CB and we are looking at a very capable squad for this season in comparison to the rest of the league. Can't wait for the season to start now

Ufuk Talay could be a great coach for Matty. There's certainly plenty of competition there and I bet he will surprise some people. He put a lot of good shifts in in difficult teams. He'll be a good club and squad player. As we've seen Talay uses his squad well. I'd also pick him to play well with Davila and to improve. Fingers crossed.

Devere was immense last year. Very happy to have him back. Only has to replace Taylor, no pressure!

Biggest re-signing so far. Well done Nix.

DeVere started pretty shaky with us imo, but got better and better every game. I do wonder how he'll go without Taylor alongside him taking most of the distribution responsibility though.

Hemed just posted an insta of him still in the UK, so I doubt we'll see him sign for us anytime soon.

Apparently on his insta story a few days ago, he posted a picture of a few world times ; London , Dubai, New York and Sydney, and had a thinking emoji below it.

Seems a team based in Sydney could still be in the running..

Word from Piney that is was DeVere or a Visa CB, so I think it is unlikely we run with 4 senior CBs especially with Laws & Payne able to fill in. I can only see us signing 2 more players now, a Visa Striker (Hemed?) and maybe we take a punt on a visa LB.

A visa striker has got to be the priority now. I expect Ball and Davila to be far more happy and settled, for this 3rd 'hub', having their families with them. Hopefully that means their form returns to more pre Covid, than post Covid.

But still is a real danger Nix's attack could be very toothless (as it was post Covid), without someone to replace Hooper. So if you have limited funds left, that's where you have to throw your money.

Deklan Wynne would be a great pickup as that LB/CB cover. But is anyone's guess what his plans are at the moment. Tom Doyle a poor man's option, if the cupboard is really bare.

Think Talay, Gill & Welnix should be congratulated on the squad they have assembled to date. Considering that the Nix will be based in Australia indefinitely (and still not 100% sure which city longer term), and all the uncertainty that comes from that, they have done a good job. You look at basket case like Newcastle's situation, and have to be thankful Nix are in such sound stable ownership hands.

True, I forgot about Laws. Good shout with a visa left back, I don't feel comfortable having just McGarry as our only left back

Devere to be captain? I assume it hasn't been announced who will take over from Taylor yet

I would say Rufer and Ball would be ahead of him in the list, but certainly the leader of the defence

By my count that's 14 players returned from last year ?. So at least some consistency compared to previous years of late.

I was always surprised when the passing maps came out to see that DeVere often passed from the back more than Taylor. It ended up fairly even but according to Nix stats DeVere made the most passes of any player last year. Would say a lot of that was our "give the ball to Libby" tactic we went to late game.

Hope he's bench warming only. Many might have forgotten but he couldn't score in a brothel when here last time and things don't seem to have changed much since.

Without jumping to conclusions are there any local kiwi players that are available who could do the roles the two recent Aussie signings will be undertaking.

Enjoying the last few seasons where we have had players develop.
