P.S. A Pareto optimum is "a situation where no-one can be made better off without making someone worse off". More or less a "win-win" situation. I'm not sure how negotiations between a club and a player where both sides like the deal can be anything else - it's not as if an agent can make anyone do anything without the other actor's consent.

I am sure Clapham is a great guy and a good player for the Dragons but he would probably struggle at the A league level.
For all that is worth, Russel Kamo is probably a better player than Clapham, IMHO.

I love to see Ifill back. With his class and experience, Ernie should use him as deluxe premium impact player, a player who can change a game in the last minute. After coming back from his injury, he will be strong minded, like playing his last game, minute. With Ifill we WILL win the grand final next year! Oh. OK, I got a bit excited.

The other possibility is that if we are signing Roy this may open up funds for spending elsewhere as I'd hope and imagine that they haven't signed him on the same coin as Iffy, say...
Still not 100% sold on Krishna, but he's given us more of a lift than Brockie, but hasn't been as great at tucking the ball away...

I think this is an odd signing. They wont give Stein a two year deal, who is a proven import in the league, over a guy that is still hit or miss (personally I think miss)?????? I think this signing here means the end of Stein.
Its a big call especially in light of his second year with only 4 imports. Next year is Riera, Carlos, Kenny, Roy +1. Ifill will be naturalised.
Ernie tends to like fast nippy players. He now has the guy up front that has pace that he kinda wanted. I really hope this works for us.

I'm fairly excited about this, guys with pace do tend to do quite well in this league and he's shown quite a bit in the last few games.
Realistically, why would we re-sign Ifill to rehab with us? Surely you wait and see whether he can play again before making a decision - I think the likelihood of him appearing for us if very slim. I'm a massive fan of him but I think it's very unlikely.

Yes but a contracted player is one less player you don't have in another position. You could argue that we don't need a 5th choice striker in a squad of 23. Anyway, let's see if he can get back to match fitness, then think about whether we offer him a contract. He can rehab on the PFA cash!
Back to Krishna, I feel genuinely pleased for him. He seems like one of ours even those he both not a kiwi and an Aucklander
I've never seen krishna play until his appearances for the phoenix, and on the basis of that alone I would say he's worth this deal.
I just don't get the criticism, it seemed fairly obvious there was some spark there, and his first game was the only one where I thought he wasn't that great. Each appearance since then has shown at least a couple of moments of real quality, which is enough for me to think that Ernie can get that out of him consistently over time.
His two year deal might well have something to do with Carlos being jettisoned after next season when the import quota drops too.
I thinik signing Krishna is actually a good thing, is he really a 5th choice striker, Stein may well be gone, which leaves Brockie, Boyd, Ifill? All Kiwis for next season. I could actually see Krishna starting with Ifill as a great option with Boyd and Brockie scrapping it out for the bench.
