While there is no doubting Costas huge potential and ability - the things I admire about Costa is his humility and his respectful manner....all power and best wishes to Costa!

Is his brother worth consideration for one of the other under 20 spots?

I think George is a quality player and his determination matches none i have seen before. I think he is good enough. His height is the only thing that lets him down, his talent and skill can take him places.

He well on sit on the bench cause he is'nt good enough to start at this level yet.

He'd be better off playing in the NZFC were he'll get plently of game time.

You seriously think that he would be better off in the NZFC, where he will get targeted and hacked by crap defenders, playing on crap grounds, in crap weather, with crap teammates, in a comparatively crap competition,

rather than getting the odd chance in the A-League, training with class players and staff, and being able to show his talent to a worldwide audience?

How many times have we seen genuinely classy young NZ players get all their class knocked out of them by playing in our average leagues? give the guy a chance to prove how good he really may be. definately won't do him any harm.

If you were 16 would you want to watch football or play football. Theres no reason he couldnt spend time in the Phoenix team enviroment. Anyway, its he's good enough he's gonna get spotted at the u17's or maybe even 20's world cup and get some offers from European clubs.

I think Ricky should give him some game time. Bring him on if theyre like 10mins to go and weather were up 3-0 or down 3-0.

The dillema we have now is not finding much NZ home brew talent. The only way to aviod this in the future is to let Costa and guys like him get some experiance and let them develop.

I have no problem with giving a guy experince and also to find out if he's good enough. I just dont want a guy who's still got alot of development to go through warming the bench.

O yeah surley. You dont want Ricki doing with Costa what Sven did with Theo Walcott at the World cup...

This is true. I advocate signing Costa, but as a youngster, not a starting player for the first game, and not a season long bench warmer. I think Costa will get played, and he will eventually (even perhaps this season) get regular game time. But he will take a couple of months to break into the first team as a weekly starting player.

yeah thats a given, as it is with young players. To adjust to a different level of football is difficult. If we see him come out and dominate then we know there is bigger things for him but right now im expecting a little bit less.

Yeah, it was on Newstalk ZB this morning - had a soundbyte from him saying that he was stoked and really looking forward to the opportunity of professional football in his own town.

Great signing for a long-term prospect.

I think it is a great signing.  Ricky is staying true to his word about having young NZ talent.  From the players point of view it is a great step in his personal development.

Well done Ricky!!

Brilliant, even if he doesn't get a game (which I am sure he will at some stage) the experience and superior coaching and training environment will be great for him

True. On the chance that he turns out to be really really good (not sure about this, but time wil tell) the Phoenix could possbily get offers from bigger clubs, maybe even in Europe. The future transfer fee could be worth a bit. A short term contract wouldn't really give Phoenix much room to negotiaite with any future employers.

Surley hell be picked up and shipped elsewhere. But while we have him i say we make the most of him.

yep.... three-year contract is the best part of that news today.

covers all bases, if he struggles - there is time to develop. if he is class that is great, he'll either be a great foundation player or earn the club a bit of coin on the transfer market.

all in all - a good deal, well done to the kid!!:)

...mmmm...He will probably struggle for the first year,...but being around the likes of Aolsei, that will help in the following years.
But worth a go...

Good signing by Sherbert here i think he will do well in the A-League if he gets given enough game time. It would be good to see him start a number of games too rather than just coming off the bench all the time.

Three for me, and two for them.

hopefuly a good signing, we have the pre season to get him use to speed of the a league. depending on what formation the manager goes with. if we play counter attacking football i think he will get more game time. if we play a more short passing possession style of game his game time will be limited.

I think the three year contract is a sure sign he's looked at as a player for the future.  He's only 17, he'll take a while to get up to speed.  But it will be great to see him in pre-season and see how he matches up!!  Hopefully he gets some game time...

I think some people may be overlooking what is clearly a major factor in him getting signed - the fact that he is a young, exciting local lad is going to do wonders in getting wellingtonians in behind their team. that is what the team needs. imagine the roar he will get when he runs onto the field, it will be a massive rush.
