Well if It's true it will be the end of a pretty awesome career. Sure he hasn't delivered hugely for us but I bet he has been invaluable to the club, I wonder if he has been good for Smeltzys game in that having a proven goal scorer around with all that experience can't be all bad for the guy.
So big ups Vaughan, a NZ Football legend!

Great career for Covs, I read somewhere that he is rated New Zealands 2nd most successful footballer behind Rufer. At least this will open up a players spot for us on the bright side

Perhaps Ricky will give him a last run on Sunday then. Hope so, it'd be great to give Covs a big send off (and I don't mend a la Hearfield!)

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

i wish covs all the best but on the plus side opens up another squad place which might be filled with a decent striker if the phoenix will pull their finger out...whoops just saw a flying pig pass my window

During Covs media tirade earlier in the season, didn't he mention he'll be picked up by another club and wanted to continue given there'd be more teams and therefore more options open?
Me thinks the offers may not have come in as one thought they might......

Does anyone know where the press confference will be and if I need to get accreditation to get in as a writer for FFT?

Newtown Park, Midday tomorrow.
Not sure you'd need accreditation, but if they say no you may end up with all the stalkers off here showing up

My money is on Vaughan heading back to Melb, if he wnats to continue playing then that would be in the the VPL, could team back up with South Melbourne?

to be honest, its not sad to see him go... specially from a phoenix point of veiw. but he has been and incredible "servant" to nz football.
it is great it opens another gap for a quality striker. not to long ago I remember covs talking about a possible move to one of the new a-league clubs. wonder wat happen to those ambitions. doesnt suprise me though whn you look at the quality play and strikers those clubs have managed to secure.

speaking of which... why did the phoenix never tried harder to get jermey brockie??!
hes kiwi, hes an out and out striker, hes young. isnt that what were looking for?
I heard ricki and him might not have the closest of relationships.

Have you seen the North Queensland squad ?

Brockie has moved back to being a wide midfielder rather than an out and out striker, he is injury prone, failed at Sydney, and has hardly lit up the NZFC.

I like him and hope he carries on his Olympic form for North Queensland once fit, but a good (and very short) Olympic campaign and scoring in the Central league don't outweigh the lack of displayed results at the next level up.

That is what I'm hearing.  His wife is from there too.

I think by the time two more teams are added the league will be watered down a tad, therefore Brockie might just cut it as a squad player in the 09/10 version.

I know Gold Coast are looking good squad wise but Steve Fitzsimmons and Zenon Caravella??

And the North Queensland squad does not put any fear in me as they are basically Old Sydney FC offcuts totally 6!!
