This is really Skaman's topic - I am kinda stealing it, but it warrants its own string

IF WE CRACK 20K THIS SUNDAY THE PHOENIX WILL HAVE ATTRACTED MORE FANS IN TWO GAMES THAN THE KNIGHTS GOT ALL LAST SEASON.

BRING A FRIEND ON SUNDAY AND STICK IT UP THE JAFAS (other than those coming down for the game, to whom we take our hats off).

YES, THIS POST IS INTENTIONALLY PROVOCATIVE.

I don't think we're trying to 'stick it up the JAFAS' - it's got nothing to do with em. I do feel kinda sorry for the fans who went game in game out and read flurries of abuse here. Obviously Auckland has nothing on Welly, but still.

20k would be amazing. Especially after the result vs CCM.

Hey, whatever it takes to get the punters in and make the Phoenix a success. It's all good by me.
Even exploiting small-town prejudices. Just leave your torches and pitchforks at home ok?

The only reason the Knights got more than 30k for the whole season was because they had so many outta town fans.

A dog with a bone :)

...and our population is 10% of yours, so you'd need 200k.

Good luck with that.

...and I will say right now, A-League football is significantly better without 16 hours driving to get to it.

20k?

More realistically id say we can hit 18k.

Althought 20 would be amazing!!!! Will have to wait and see, and now seeing as season tickets have passed 2000...wow, cant wait.

I'd guess the crowd will drop a bit down to say 10k.

Sure, you did do great against the Victory, but crowds are usually bigger for the first game a team plays, and also against the current champion, and you've just been smashed by a team from a place which most Aussies, let alone Kiwis, don't even know where its located so that could hurt the crowd a bit too.

I tip a 2-0 draw to the Phoenix with at stunning defensive display, Daniel and Joel Griffiths having a diving competion, Coveny bagging the first goal against his old team and Smeltz finishing off the job in the last 10 minutes.

2000 members is quite an achievement- similar to the Mariners, and they've had 2 seasons, a grand final, Marquee player and 2 local derbies to build it up.

Yeah well it would have been easier on you if you had realised that you didnt have to go through Napier to get to Auckland......

Kia ora, Aotearoa
Getting one up on the JAFA's is only part of it, we all want Football to be a success in NZ and Wellington is after all the capital and if there has to be only one team, in the A League then it should hail from the capital.

Auckland have nicked all the great live shows/bands and half the tickets end up with scalpers - Eden park has nicked the rugby world cup semi's & final.

They say it's because they have the largest population, which they do! but only 10% are true Kiwis, 50% can't even speaka de lauguage!

Petty and boring.
As someone who missed only a handful of Kingz/Knights games and who is a long time football fan who stayed with the club through thick and thin and who was gutted when they moved, I think this is a stupid pathetic thread.
Instead of poking the borax at potential fans and allies of the Nix, why don't you just concentrate on the real opposition, the Aussies.
Stop acting like Johnny Come Latelys.

I wonder how many 'fans' on this site would have gone to see the Knights if they were based in Wellington?

can't say i am overly worried about shaming auckland. We will get bigger crowds for the first season, the real test comes if the nix go through a bad spell.

hopefully the wellington rugby team will continue their pish form so more people are curious about coming to the nix

Some of us went to see them in Auckland.

I'm hoping more from Auckland will make the trip to Wellington and am glad many of you are.

Looking forward to it. I'll be wearing my own retro- shirt - a 1980s Swansea away strip which is yellow, with the old black swan logo, spread eagled -  spookily like the Phoenix emblem.
The missus hates it, but I love it.
Only trouble is I have had to lose weight to wear it, thankfully skin tight was the order of the day.

playing most of the games at 5pm on a sunday may hinder us getting to 20k people, but what an amazing atmos we'd have if we did get that many along !   the friday night games should be a bumper crowd

Ta muchly. I presume you are talking about the narrow loss to a Premiership side (105th minute goal ). We're not a bad cup side usually, there were a few Premiership teams went home from the Vetch with their tales between their legs. Mind you they had a secret weapon at the vetch - a tiny, dingy changing room for the opposition. When we beat West Ham a few years ago one of the West Ham officials fronted the groundsman on the lack of a fridge full of Lucozade before tha match. "Oh you don't get that here, boyo." the old timer responded."  We just make do with a cuppa and a fag."
