They had one of those for the Newcastle game as well. And they're not trying to give out shirts with tickets...

I agree with Liverpoolfan1 - I think TW crowds were better on Sunday afternoons. I think it likely that the Saturday evening kick-off will lose some of the families.

For me personally, it's better to have a Saturday kick-off - the worst thing about the Sunday kick-offs is getting up for that Monday morning flight either having packed whilst drunk the night before or with the need to pack still outstanding.
My apologies to you SiNZ and other readers, I'm fairly inexperienced in forum etiquette, but will try harder in future.    I hope to do some real shouting on Saturday

11500 turned out when the forcast was for a strong southerly. So with the win in Oz should give this a at least a 50% increase.   Hundreds of people turned around from the first game due to the ticket lines these people should be lining up again with more insentive to buy early.   I say 20000 should be the target.

I'd say 20,000 is a bit optimistic but i think anywhere between 13k-16k weather dependant.
Permalink Permalink

Realistically I think 13-15k weather dependent.

Unfortunately I will not be in attendance.

From the A-League website...

With another large crowd expected for Wellington's third home match of the season, the aggregate home crowd for the Phoenix should already surpass the aggregate crowd that watched all of the New Zealand Knights' 11 home matches of the Hyundai A-League 2006/07 season (34,016), and perhaps even top the Knights' aggregate crowd recorded in 2005/06 (39,086). A total of 25,291 people watched Wellington's first two home matches this season, meaning that an attendance of 8,096 against Adelaide would see the Phoenix bypass the Knights' 2006/07 season tally, while a 13,166 attendance would beat the Knights' 2005/06 total season aggregate.

And on a related matter, Wellington Lions attracted 8,931 to their match tonight - after a report in the DomPost that 19,000 tickets had been sold by yesterday.

Interesting.  A bit of talking up the attendance me thinks.  I wonder why?

I know, I know, its serious!

I think ~ 13000 - 15000. 12000 if it rains. I can't make both this one and the next one, so I'm going to the next game and bringing the tadpoles and mrs bullfrog.

Hopefully we can build the awareness of how good the squad are by having another belter of a win and bringing in the 20K figures next week.

Rise the Phoenix!

A tip for those attending the Backbencher- Bring cash - the cues for eftpos get quite bad during a full house- expect the place to be packed by 5pm

As mentioned in other threads.  I'm picking 15,000.  The Dominion had a great sport section this morning,  heaps of Phoenix stuff.  They are certainly doing there to spread the word.  Always keeping people interested.

Will they have extra staff on serving also as each time I have been there most of the staff seem to be away from the bar cleraring tables and serving food.

Saw many people wait then walk out due to the time waiting for a beer

Well another problem we have had is people staying at the bar to drink- Basically means there is only one channel in & out of the bar. Maybe we need a couple of sheep dogs to keeps the herd in line

If this is true, we might be looking at a 20,000 crowd...that'd be awesome.

[QUOTE]Interislander And Phoenix Join Forces
Thursday, 20 September 2007, 4:23 pm
Press Release: Toll New Zealand

Wellington's Phoenix FC has scored a significant sponsorship goal with today's announcement that the club has entered a three-year sponsorship with Interislander.

Interislander's group general manager, Seamus O'Sullivan, said the organisation was proud to be associated with the Phoenix.

"We have plenty in common. We both have a national reputation from a strong Wellington base, families are an important market for both of us, and we share a strong interest in Australia.

"Australian visitors are a big part of our customer base and Wellington Phoenix FC is a New Zealand club competing in Australia's premier football league, the Hyundai A-League.

"This is a win-win sponsorship, benefiting Interislander, Wellington's newest and most exciting professional sporting franchise and the people of our home base - the citizens of our capital city," Mr O'Sullivan says.

Wellington Phoenix head coach, Ricki Herbert, echoed Mr O'Sullivan's sentiments.

"Interislander is a New Zealand icon. It's well known, well loved and well supported throughout the land. It's a great example for us at the Phoenix as we build a club that is important to Wellington and New Zealand," he said.

so now we'll get the Float Up crowd too ..

Confirm that.  Tried to get a friend along to Aisle 30 but everything sold out in the whole area.  Looks like it might be another record crowd.

That is brilliant!! Almost makes me want to leave London and move back to Nz and live in Wellington, so I don't have to miss all this.

And I am an Aucklander originally  .

Come on Wellington!

Whats the capacity at Westpac Stadium?
I guarantee you guys will sell it out for the LA Galaxy game. That will be one of the greatest days in recent times for football in NZ. The biggest home football crowd ever in NZ!

If we build it, they will come...

I think the official capacity is 34,500, but I could be wrong. It would be brilliant if we sell out for the Galaxy game, since sell-outs pretty much happen only for the AB tests and the sevens...

Mad - I booked two seats in aisle 21 this morning around 9am, when I went to collect them at the MF Centre Ticketek there was a decent sized queue and all of them buying nix tickets.

Lets see if we can get everyone singing :)

I reckon you'll get 16-17k.

(side note: the 7,983rd person through the turnstiles this week will surpass the NZ Knights' entire season attendance total for 2006-07!)

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.
