Crowds - The thread of Australian whining
It seems that there is always an excuse when we get a small croud. Something else is always on which is cheaper and that's why we get a small croud. The problem is that there is never going to be the perfect weekend. You never get a weekend where there is no rugby, league, cricket, club sport or festivals. Form is always used as another reason for low crouds but did we really see a rise mid season when we were in good form?
It was simply a bad croud. Obviously the media are going to take a bad croud and do what they do with it. Media sensationalism doesn't make the underlying issue somehow irrelevant though. I feel that we should be getting 15k to a knock out game like that regardless of what other teams in the league are getting.

I really can't see a negative with this.
Other things: Marine Centre, a specialised event centre for Bon fudgeing Jovi, Humoungously tall apartment blocks (Japanese earthquake proofed design) - may or may not be owned by Terry, BIG shopping centres (looks at Mrs Smeltz), food, K-Town becomes even more desirable and with all the high rise apartments there is less wind and rain.
Last weekend we got 13k. The tickets were cheaper, the time wasn't an obstacle, the Hurricanes were not playing, the Kiwis were not playing, the Phoenix owned the promotion.
It's not 'an excuse' when you can clearly see the factors that have changed between last weekend and this weekend.

Crouds for both play-offs were healthy.
How do we (or can we) replicate similar conditions to repeat the experience and generate crouds?
The time would have been a big factor for families I would imagine. The possibility of extra time and penalties would have meant kids getting to bed pretty late (depending on the age of kids and how long it would take them to get home) on a school night. Even finishing at 90 minutes might have been a pretty late bedtime for some kids by the time they got home.

Yeah there were, but just thought it might have been a factor for many more families.

What stands out in 09/10 compared with our other forays into the finals is a word that Ernie doesn't like, momentum. The 'Nix in 09/10 finished the season with 3 wins (6 wins in the final 8 games) while in 11/12, where we equalled the points tally and position of 09/10, we finished the season with DLL and resulted in a similar turnout as last nights game in the home final against Sydney (which we won). This season we beat our previous best seasons of 09/10 and 11/12 (using points per game) but our momentum leading up to the finals was poor.
We still had our 2nd highest average attendance at Westpac stadium during the regular season.
i feel that you have your season croud from wellington and to get more people involved you have to try and attract people from further away than wellington, kapiti and the hutt.
The FFA didn't really spend a lot in promoting the game here did they? The Nix did some, the WCC did naf all, like the FFA. It was almost like no one wanted to own the game and promote it in my opinion. Fans were though. I had quite a few people at my work talking about the team and game which was interesting.

Last night was sharke. The last 3 out of 4 home games were sharke. I do not take pleasure from that, quite the opposite in fact.
The season promised A LOT, even up to 6 weeks ago. We fudgeed it up, that is annoying. That's all there is to it really.
The Guardian mentioned the low croud, saying no wonder because of the Sunday evening date. If we would play like some journous wite, we would get the wooden spoon every single year!

Auckland may be getting a light rail system, and we've got about 4 football grounds, all of which suck.
But the most important issue is that Wellington doesn't have a big enough international airport, so the immigrants don't move there unless they're really motivated to. The other one is - where would they all live? It would be all very well to have J82's Hong Kong apartment blocks for a million+ population, but we can't even get those in Auckland because of all the NIMBYs, and it'll be worse in Wellington where the NIMBYs can stop even harmless sports grounds.
The head Office idea of Capital City is huge money/population not many research until a venture falls over.

Damn, if Wellington was a 1.5 million city with a vibrant cultural and ethnic mix, I'd most probably move back. Especially since by that stage I'll have retired from playing so I won't live in dread of Sunday mornings in July.
I was driving through town during the Mayweather fight, anywhere that was showing the boxing had queues out the door, and arround the windows. At Four Kings the crouds had spilled on the road. Even Kebabs on Queen had a huge croud around their windows, etc.
Pay perview was $49, people at work actually purchased it.
Why the heck does a couple of blokes trying to smash the brain cells out of each other on the other side of the planet, get so much more attention than a local team in a home semi final?
It's hype as simple as that. Most people don't watch boxing except for the big events, the big purses, etc.

I still drove down from Palmy and got home at 11-30pm. I imagine you came down from Wanganui as well. I couldn't give a shark what else was on last night or if the Hurricanes played on Saturday night. I suppose some people just have different levels of passion for supporting the Nix. I felt utterly deflated after last nights result as well as the last 4-5 home games but I'm sure I'll be making the journey again next season.

I should have remembered to:
- Congratulate him for doing a far better job with the league than Ben Buckley did
- Congratulate him for investigating Perth's salary cap and encourage him to investigate all the clubs
- Ask him for a 10 year licence extension.
Ah well, there's always next time?
