No bigger than other days/times so still not clear what is best to go for in 2014/15. Mind you it was a dead rubber..almost.
Crowds - The thread of Australian whining
But anyone can start chants and people generally join in, so I still don't understand what you're on about. I'd be annoyed at someone shouting at me to fire up too, maybe he should have started a chant instead of demanding an atmosphere from others?
As for the forums, people disagree about things. Disagreeing with someone doesn't make you elitist.
You seem to have invented this 'in group' in your head as you seem to like to be on the outside of it. This is evidenced by you constantly challenging the same people on twitter.
I have never once seen someone shot down for starting a chant. I have never once seen somebody act as if they're superior to anyone else in the fever zone.
With regards to this person he did try to start chants to which only a few contributed too. When he made his comment for the Fever to fire up was well after this.
6000 is fair crowd. Seems to be the norm.
FFA have in the licence agreements, that a team needs to average a certain crowd number, I think it is 12.5 K as part of the licence, along with other requirements... they used it to help get rid of Con at Newcastle and why Tony [Clive Palmer] backed off suing FFA when the kicked out the Fold Coast ...
Given FFA are chasing a 100 million plus media deal at the next media deal [negotiations should be complete in about two years] there is an expectation at what clubs can produce ... Obviously the NZ market [ratings] is helped by having a NZ team ... but FFA are trying to sell ground excitement ... 6K average in a 30K stadium does not look or sound great...
Ultimate A-League shows an average of 8 K however as discussed earlier in the thread it is the non Wellington matches that get those numbers up ..

Mariners crowds...
Bobobalde- we have had this discussion on here previously. You seem to have got it in YOUR head that the Yellow Fever should be chanting what YOU want when YOU want. You mentioned that if you're not in the "YF Elite", you are nothing. I only hear YOU repeating this line.
I agree with you that the chanting was pretty shitty today, but that is a reflection on the dross that was being presented to us on the playing field. If you want to get a chant going, START A CHANT.
Don't take this as a personal criticism of yourself, I appreciate everyone that turns up to watch the Phoenix, but, don't criticise the ones that do a hell of a lot for the YF & the Phoenix, if you believe that there is an "elite", why not try & get to know them? You may find that they are a complete bunch of tossers, & not worth getting yourself worked up over it, or you may find that they are just avid football fans who enjoy a bit of a laugh!
If only there was a So Much This button, because I'd be giving you all the karma for that post Hatter.

Yes, because it's all about me? The chants sang should only be what I want.. give me the megablaster and let me lead... Sigh, that's not what i am getting at. What I am getting at is the fact that quite often individuals attempt to start chants but they don't carry for whatever reason, unless it's in that little core group of about 12. I saw in chch causal fans being shut down.
Hey i started a few chant today from about 5-7 rows behind you. I fully get in behind every chant that is sung. Please don't question my efforts. I go home EVERY game without a voice. I AM behind the boys 100%.
Yes fair enough, that's all well, i've met quite a few of you actually, and you're all a good bunch of people. I'm not having a personal dig.
To say this is ONLY my view is wrong. People who don't post on the forums think the same as me and have verbally said it. I'm only painting another viewpoint on the crowds and on the fever zone. If you guy don't want it as insight or feedback then fine, you can continue to believe everything is rosy.

Wouldn't get too worked up about that mate. The person running that twitter didn't even know what a panenka was!
Anyway, simple fix for the crowds and the atmosphere is for the phoenix to win.
Which we can only hope for.. next year.
It seems like every game this season there has been an excuse for poor crowd numbers. This was a dead rubber, other games were against shit teams, our form was poor, we hadn't played in Wellington for 6 weeks etc. There may be some merit in some of them but eventually the excuses run out and the realisation hits. That realisation is that there is probably only about 7,000 who want to watch the Phoenix on any day. A new stadium, marketing, better food and cheaper tickets won't solve that fact. I'm not saying we can't or shouldn't try to grow crowds; I'm just saying that what we saw today was probably a fair reflection of our support.
I also would agree that going to a game is less of an "experience" now. I'm not going to criticise anyone for that but I think it is a fact. I also think the non YF has become less engaged in chanting. I don't know, the chants just seem a bit jaded. Alas, I have no ideas to improve them.

But you can't win all the time.
Being realistic again, we are one of the smaller clubs in the A-League so we can probably expect an average placing of about 7th. Right now we have an awesome coach who knows how to do more with less and I think we should be expecting to make the playoffs. I just think that if our business model is contingent on on field success then that is going to blow up once every couple of seasons when we have a bad season.
Basically, the Phoenix will only survive long term as long as the Welnix are willing to subsidise them. That's the same for heaps of football clubs around the world too but it does make our position slightly precarious.
People also have to understand that for many, times are tough, and there just isn't as many discretionary dollars around. Taking the family to the football is costly and it is hard to justify that sort of spending on a regular basis. The spend is down across all codes and until the economy picks up more then crowd numbers will remain low, regardless of the quality of football on display.
I laugh at this 'YF elite' call. Thats just absolutely cracks me up no end cause its so far from the truth, its not funny.. As an 'outsider' point of view, I can tell you Bobo that you might have a bit more traction with some folk if you didn't spend your entire existence on this forum in the early years answering every post with BOBO BALDE. Thats not being elitest, thats ignoring fucking annoying posters so forgive me if I dismiss your post and POV as just being a moaner.
The chants quite a lot of the time seem to have no thought in terms of what is happening on the pitch - i.e. Today's Manny chant when IMO Muscat was terrible today.
Same with 'a team of Vinnie Lias' in the past. I know there's obviously a certain irony to it, but I just can't get into those particular chants.
The teams performances haven't helped though, as said earlier on this thread, the stuff on the pitch doesn't encourage chants a lot of the time.
I also don't get how it is their fault that other people don't join in chants when people other than themselves start them. I certainly don't see how that makes them elitist.
I'd suggest part of the reason it happens anyway is that there is more people in that particular group that chant. So it is more likely to catch on and carry. There is also another group (marshy and his mates) who start a lot of chants, those naturally catch on more too because of numbers - does this make them elitist too? Or is it just this special group of people that you seem to have a thing for?

Should probably not chant oh Wellington on when a) we aren't wonderful and b) it's a sunny day.

Alright, i'll go close this account, start fresh and see what people think.
All class.

People will write this off as just another excuse. But having the warriors at the stadium the night before would obviously have had a negative effect on the crowd.

Shouldn't it have been more people there? considering it was buy two tix for $40?
Apologies to everyone in aisle 12, I tried a "We're the Phoenix, the mighty Phoenix, not the Kingz or Knights" chant to no avail, people just stared at me. I also counted te league fans whom took up the double ticket offer. They were the ones leaving at the 80th minute. I tried and failed. Sorry team.

I'd suggest that would only have clawed a few of the losses back. People only have so much money to spend on a given weekend. So naturally more competition for that $ will decrease the demand for tickets to the nix game
Try listening to the RBB, their chants truly have no reflection as to what is going on on the pitch.

I think it may have slightly affected the crowd but not by much. A lot of the people who go to the warriors don't give a toss about football.
Nothing like a loss to get the angst flowing
I sense a whole off-season of angst.
Although to be fair, I'd rather have angst than nothing. At least with angst we still know that there's enough people who care.

It's not just the loss though is it? It's the whole dynamics
Yes i may have made some over the top statements, i admit that, but out of interest, how keen are you and the other mods on getting fan feedback about the zone etc?
See, I think this is part of the problem.
'The mods' don't need feedback on the zone, they don't control the zone. But you seem to think they do, and go on about elitist behaviour and how poorly you think they've done whenever you think it's a bit quiet.
The Yellow Fever is a collective effort, anyone is free to contribute to chants, activities, forum competitions or whatever. Yes, some do more than others, but that doesn't make them elitist or higher up in some imaginary hierarchy...nor do they act as such.
Naturally they'd be interested in feedback, as much as anyone else who wants a better feverzone would be. But they don't NEED it.
Of course we are interested. It would be silly not to be. For me it seems like there is probably about 50odd people that join in regularly. Only oh Welly and clap clap phoenix get more people involved. Fucked if I know how we get the other 300-400 contributing more than they do.
Although it's seems the zone are better when the team is going well
Get some paid extras in!!! Tee Hee.
What was with the Hawaii-5-0 theme?
That actually would be a good theme for the zone to adopt. A section of the crowd doing that loud.

Very clever.
Lucky for us there isn't a Hawaii-0-5 theme!

Key is in the numbers. Five zero.
