Daniel - Friend or Foe??

Oh K, Ive managed to see alot of banter against Daniel in the last couple of weeks on YF over his style and tactics.

My thoughts, let him settle into the game, get to know what hes up against in the a-league, and then judge him. I do agree that his diving and theatrics do take a back seat in his playing style and his true brazilian flair come out. GIve him tim Ii say...

Your thoughts???

I would say 90% of Phoenix fans think he has been great for us so far.  He does dive, but so does Michael Owen, Steve Gerrard, Ronaldo, etc, and a lot of Phoenix fans also support those players.

Personally, I support anyone who pulls on the nix shirt.

a few dives versus a genuine playmaker
I like tautologies because I like them.

He can dive into my girlfriends undies for all I care (except she left me...) - he's been class on all fronts and won us the game in pre-season at Melbourne and brought us back into the game at home against Victory!!!  He'll work it out soon enough and will reduce his diving but we have to realize its all part of the character of the flamboyant master he is proving to be.....

D A N I E L.....theres only one DANIEL!!!

yeah he will get to know the league soon, and will realise his dives arent working. Then we'll see the real Daniel

Hes good - but his diving is pissing me off

What I don't like is when he dives the commentators complain and go on, but when an Aussie dives he's either copying the foreigners or not diving.

Also pronounced Daniel or Dan-i-el?

he has the talent to beat players or go around them. I think he needs to spend less time trying for the free kick and use his skills.

It's pronounced Daniel, just like any other Daniel...  Commentators might try to make it sound more South American by altering the emphasis, but if you met him you'd just say Daniel.

As for his play in Rnd 1 & 2, he's clearly looked happier once Felipe has been there to link up with - I know I'm playing a broken record, but if you get George on up front and stick Felipe in rather than Ferrante, you'll have a much better attacking line up.

Yeah i agree.

Give the boy time.

When felipe came on it brought the best out in daniel. I think he feels like felipe is getting to much attention and he wants to out-trick him. Good for the spirit of comp. but hope he doesnt get too caught up in it.

I can understand Daniel being the focus of attention being Brazilian but persoanlly I'm getting pissed off with Ferrantes wasted shots on goal. Would rather have Johnson on the field.

Daniel is an excellent player. He will come under scrutiny from every quarter, but we should stick up for him. If the away fans and media are booing and giving him some stick, great...it means he is getting under their skin. Should be water off a ducks back to us. A team of hard working grafters would be boring, unwatchable, and not good enough in this league (Knights anyone?).

Can you tell I support ManU and like watching Ronaldo!! :)

I agree,  very frustrating to see all those shots wasted and was a bit of an enigma the rest of time.  Should have been dragged alot earlier.

The refs have tagged him as a diver - even when fouled he'll get nothing now.

Twice (when he was a young lad) at Flamengo .  Very direct striker.  Assuming he gets a decent run I can't see any reason why he shouldn't do the business over here.

As for the Daniel/Felipe situation - they'll both play better if they're both in the side - they'll understand each other's styles because they both come from a futsal background (George too).  Get George in for Coveny, Daniel on the left, Felipe behind the strikers.

Bengii knows his stuff.

Id like to see george get a run. Maybe this week against Jets. Will be interesting to see what type of lineup ricki puts up.

Felipe causes teams trouble himself, image him george, and daniel all on their games...what a sight...

How can you say one of our own is a foe? One of our most promising too. He's signed for 2 years. He will get used to it ffs. valeo2007-09-03 22:53:55

One of the most promising? I don't think he's shown much promise at all during the first two matches. If anything he's turned out to be a disappointment. Felipe seems to be coping fine and showing a lot more promise than Daniel.

I agree that Daniel should be given some time but diving all the f**king time doesn't help his popularity with fans.

I'm just saying - give him a f**king chance. It's been 2 games. He isn't used to it yet. I can't believe how fast you guys are jumping on him.

I'm "not jumping on him"... strange phrase makes me wonder what other websites you're looking at.

I posted in this thread to help Daniel. If he reads it he'll see that a lot of people are getting annoying with the excessive diving. I hope he proves me wrong about being a disappointment.

here, here exactly what I was thinking, he used to piss me off wasting his talent like that, same applies to Christiano Ronaldo, THE WORST of them all.

his diving cracks me up.  Don't know why he does it on half way though, I reckon he should only do it in and around the box.

Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
There's no point in diving outside the box, because our free-kicks of late have had a lot to be desired and would probably put our goal in more peril than theirs.

Having said that, I don't think he should dive at all. It's a blight on the beautiful game.
