If I remember correctly, in the pre season games we had all three (Gao, Daniel and Bertos) in the starting 11 and we did really well.
Why not anymore?

Bertos was injured, and Hearfield is playing well, and the formation has changed.

I thought Gao was one of our best players in the Adelaide debacle. I was surprised he didn't start yesterday. He made an impact when he came on too.

Perhaps a more attacking version of our midfield will be selected for the Perth game?HarryHotspur2008-09-15 13:14:43

FK knows what goes on in Herbert's mind, but we need some consistency in the team and the formation. I feel we are in a worst state than last season, at least we could win last year, our defence is poor at present, and we are playing defenders in Midfield. WTF, lets just hope we can win in Perth, and get some confidence into those players and prove we have the potential to finish in the top 4, which at the mo looks so far away from... get em all in the mix. Hearfield too. We may lose 8-7 but it will be good to watch

There's your crowd numbers solved, score lines like that would tripple the turn out. They might not win, but watching 15+ goals a match would be good.

I'm new on here but have been to all the home games so far, does someone know what has happened to costa, if i remember last game of last season against the CCM, he ran rings round the coast defenders and even the commentators said what a star he is, so if he is not injured why isn't even on the bench, and I agree with Gao, he was our best player against adelaide and he comes on as sub 15 mins from the end!!!

All 3 players are too similar. Drift in and out of games.

The Costa (and Draper, it pisses me off when he i left out of this argument) situation is a difficult one... Unfortunately for them they are young players in a position where we have several players already... Both have had creditable performances when I have seen them play (Costa at home against Adelaide last year I think, Draper against Chile U23s), but with only four players on the bench, who are you going to leave out to put them on? I'm not saying I don't agree that they deserve a chance, I just find it difficult to give them one.

We have several strikers? Where?

Though i'm not 100% sure striker is Costa's right position.

I guess with the way were playing at the moment we look for some other inspiration, but i agree chances are limited with the age factor and numbers in the squad, just hope there not snapped up by the new franchises next year

I was thinking more attacking midfielder, which I think is more Costa's position. Draper probably is more a striker now I think of it, maybe worth a try alongside Smeltz instead of Coveny if we're going to insist on two up front

Costa's not really an attacking midfielder. The set-up we have at the moment makes it difficult for him to get a starting place, but I'd have him on the bench and look to bring him on in the last 20-25 to run at tiring defenders from wider attacking positions.
