Tenho 28 anos, estou me naturalizando e, como o tcnico do meu time, tambm da seleo, j vou jogar as Eliminatrias.

This is an article saying that Daniel is in Rio with CEO and herbert looking at players. He wants to take the main idol of my club in Rio Botafogo. Tulio. This wont happen but there are others who could well be worth it.

The most interesting thing based on the babel fish translation  is where Daniel says that he is going through the naturalisation process. Assuming this is correct then it looks like we will have a new All White midfielder in a couple of years

Cool. Can't wait to see who (if we do sign someone) we pick up. Good to see we aren't relying on DVD's this time..

sounds like a canny move to have Daniel alongside to help

here's a translation courtesy of  Babelfish

In the week that precedes the end of the Guanabara Goblet, the Botafogo received the visit from a player who helped in the campaign of the teams in Series B. Is about the lateral-left Daniel, of 28 years, that position with So Paulo Jorginho disputed. Currently in the Wellington Fenix, of the New Zelndia, it it is of vacation and it appeared General Severiano. E already wants to take an former-friend its. - I came with president and the technician of the teams to find other players to lead for there. It would like to play with Tlio, he is technician, it has good touch of ball, it would very help to strengthen our teams. There, it is alone in the base of the force and running. Game as stocking-aggressor, is being very good for me. I have 28 years, I am becoming naturalized e, as the technician of my teams, is also of the election, already I go to play the Eliminatory ones. We have good possibilities to play Pantry of the World - Daniel explained, remembering that in case that if classifies in the Oceania, still he will have to face the fifth best one of Asia. Botafoguense, Daniel still affirmed that it will go in the end of the Guanabara Goblet, against the Flamnego, in the next sunday

He's talking about getting nautralised still. I thought you had to declare for a country by age 21 or something?

If you play at Youth level you have to declare by 21, if you have never been capped at any level you can go where you like as long as you meet the nations criteria.

There is however some debate on what that criteria is in NZ.

How's my driving? - Whine here

cheers Blackplague,

the term "babelfish" comes from douglas Adam's book -" Life, the universe and everything" (or something like that) a slightly funny sci-fi take-off that some think is hilarious

it was a fish you shove in your ear to understand any language in the Universe etc etc

Don't you have to have lived in NZ for 3 years before you can play for the All Whites? If so, Daniel would be 30 or 31 by the time he could play for us.

Interesting thoughts on the A-League from Daniel if that's what he said. Pretty harsh, but probably true. My reading of it is that he's saying the A-League is more about fitness and strength than skill.

Sure, but how many players actually say that publically. It's just interesting that someone from outside of Oceania forms that view so quickly, given that it's been the hallmark of NZ and Australian football for so long. I think Australia is breaking out of that mold, although they still maintain a great physical presence, but NZ still has a long way to go.

Compared to the way Brazillians play I suspect those two elements of the A-league would stand out. Don't think he's taking a jibe or anything.

He's a good bloke is our Daniel....club man of the year I reckon and now he's helping getting some ace Brazilians to the mighty Phoenix for the upcomiing season.

Can't wait until he makes the All Whites...maybe he can divorce Mrs Daniel and we can find him a nice kiwi girl...could speed up his NZ passport!!!!!

Song, the new Korean player at Newcastle said much the same thing in an interview. In fact he said that the perception in Korea of the A League was that it was a lot more physical and of a lower standard than the K League. Which makes Song a unique case: a promising Asian youth international deciding to play at a lower standard for lower wages. But he's deliberately chosen A League football to improve his English (he says), I presume because he has a longer-term plan to play in England. Who knows, perhaps he actually wants to experience a more physical competition for his own personal growth as a player.

Anyway, whatever our opinions are of the A League it seems clear that it has a modest profile at best offshore.

Juninho made the same interesting observation earlier in the season.  He said that the A-League was far too physical, even much more so than the English Premier League.  He thought that the clubs needed to put more emphasis on playing football than 'playing the man'. I guess the physicality comes about because of the lower skill level and lack of pace (i.e., if, for example, you can't beat Juninho with skills and pace, you have to bring him down).  From what I've seen of EPL games, Juninho is right. While the EPL is physical, the emphasis  is on skill and pace.  The other thing that is fascinating if you're watching an EPL game live (you can't tell from the television) is the off-the-ball movement by players.  The players are constantly moving, looking for position and space.  Their fitness must be absolutely supberb given the amount of running they do throughout a game.  My own view is that the pro players in England and Europe are not only technically better but also more athletic and faster.  But I think the A-League will get better and better, although it's still currently very entertaining and exciting.

It'll be interesting to see if they find any gems in Sth America. Why not try and grab some 22-25 Y/O guys that also want to naturalise . .  could be great for the Nix and the AWs. . .

Unless, of course, you are a netball player. Irene van Dyk lived here for about eight seconds before getting citizenship.

yeh, netball and rugby seem much more willing to allow players to change countries (but that might be my bias showing, as i can't recall seeing any facts on it)

as to the my grandmother ate porridge/drank guiness once so I'll play for Scotland/Ireland etc - that seems to be a factor in most sports
