Just imagine how many more memberships we could have got if he threatened us with the Nix relocating to Auckland!

I just saying not EVERYTHING he says is a disaster.

You, and others are real quick to bag him when you think he's pouring out negativity - more than once it's been said something to the effect of "if he can't say something positive, he should shut up".

I challenge the people who feel that way to read that article and find anything that's not upbeat and positive. I think it's a great effort.

How about acknowledging the fact and giving some credit where credit is due?

I imagine that a number of the "Domey should shut up brigade" would acknowledge the fact that this interview was not a complete disaster and give some credit where credit is due if some of the "Domey is doing an amazing job and no one should ever say a bad word about him" cheerleaders would sometimes acknowledge that he fudges things up.

Actually, the "Domey is doing an amazing job and no one should ever say a bad word about him" cheerleaders are generally more zealous about things and probably need to re-evaluate their opinions on things more than some people who have criticised him in the past need to start throwing credit about for someone doing their job competently.

Fair point Frankie Mac.

I have acknowledged when he has said less than ideal things. Usually when I comment it's rebutting people who say "all he ever does is say negative stuff" and point out that's not the case. You might interpret that as "doing an amazing job and no one shoudl ever say a bad word about him" but there's a difference between saying that and saying "hang on, not EVERYTHING he says is negative."

Going to play Devils advocate here and say that this wasn't an interview Domey gave, it was a press release that the Nix put out and it couldn't really go wrong for him.

Okay.

But when the assertion has been put "should stay out of the media", is that material?

It's a positive press release, talking up the Phoenix and season tickets with no threats or doom or gloom.

Isn't that what people have been calling for?

So were the Nix lied to by FFA? Or did Dome lie to us?

He didn't explicitly say we were getting 10 did he?

I thought he was always optimistic it was going to happen.  My money would be on the FFA were dragging the owners on a little bit though.

Don't really want to kick him while he is down but he did say that FFA had assured him that they wanted the Nix as part of the A League etc and then this..... If things weren't going well in negotiations [and they have been protracted] then he is guilty of gilding the lily somewhat. However, if the FFA were simply being cunning dirty rotten cods [which there is every possibility of being true] then I feel sorry for him. His track record is not good though in my opinion so it could be either of these scenarios or bits of each.

He said that there was uncertainty with the new board but that all the noises that they make are positive.

His job is to be positive, and probably the FFA has been saying one thing to his face and another thing behind closed doors.

Their way of handling this has been incredibly disrespectful, not just to the Phoenix but all us fans. They only manage a weekend sports league, it's not like they are the mayor of the universe. Based on the FFA's actions to date I'm inclined to believe Dome.

That wouldn't be a surprise at all; I would tend to believe him before FFA. He's an Aussie too isn't he? #conspiracy

I would have thought he'd be on the bandwagon being a football person. Actually pretty disappointed by him. Most radiosport listeners think he's a football "expert" and all he's done is talk shark when   he should've been talking #savethenix #scarfwelly , cheap tickets and $50 out of town memberships

He is the most bandwagon football person you will ever meet.  His credibility on the sport should be nil based on his history.

I knew Martin as a teenager, the stories I could tell. Let's just say, he is now, exactly what he was then. his only redeeming feature is that he was a genuine Manure fan as far back as 1975 when Brian Moore's show kicked off here in NZ. So the one thing I will not call him is a glory hunter Manure fan. But other than that..............

don't see anything wrong with Devlin saying that it's just bullshark chat from all the parties.

And the Phoenix need to put a timeline on this. If this stand off/inaction lasts another month then their decision will be made from them by not having any players.

Yeah Devlin is a eurosnob, it's people like him that should be right behind the Phoenix and giving them plenty of air time, but he only talks about them when there are issues.

Permalink Permalink

Earlier this year I heard Devlin waxing lyrical about the Phoenix v Adelaide game he attended at Hutt Recreation. He raved on about it for some time.

Perhaps if those who are unhappy with his recent comments phone the talk back and challenge him? I am sure that there are plenty who post on here that can keep him honest.

It was a bit abrasive, and a little annoying, but he has a right to an opinion. I don't think he was 100% wrong either. (maybe just 70% wrong)
