He's got a few to answer already in the comments section.

I don't think he'll be back.  He wants to talk TO the fans, not have them talk back.

You just made me read the comments.  I have actually lost IQ points.  People reposting the FFA party line and no actual facts.

You can regain IQ points by reading any comments on stuff or youtube.

I don't think he'll be back.  He wants to talk _AT_ the fans, not have them talk back.

Fixed.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Is that like multiplying two negatives to get a positive.

That last SE Queensland expansion team was such a success, I can see why he wants to emulate it. And clearly there's thousands of football fans in Perth just waiting for another team to support in derbies against the Glory.

This man is a strategic visionary.

And the idea that you should make more teams in places where there's already heaps of members is just genius. On the basis of those metricsSydney and Melbourne could easily accommodate 4 teams each.

Honestly though, this whole thin seems to be because the FFA set it's own metric target to be 1 million A League members in 20 years. Having measurable goals is a good idea, but this seems to be an arbitrary metric being usedas a proxy measurement for community engagement.  Memberships are a very poor way to measure that. They have just created a situation where they are incentivising behaviour to artificially inflate membership numbers, while effectively sending a message to the footballing public in centres with less than a million people that they have no place in the future of professional football inAustralia. I really don't think that concentrating on the number of club members is really telling you much about the health of the  competition or football as a whole.

On the plus side, now we know why the membership metric is so fudgeing important to the FFA we can just start handing out memberships for free to anyone who 'likes' our FB page. Boom! That's 100,000 right there.

Reading that you'd have to take it as a given. Except of course it's not in Orstraliya. "We've set a target of having 1 million Australians ...

"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

Coming from a "predominant sport in the country" RL mentality Gallop might be trying to emulate the EPL idea that they have huge following outside of the "bums on seats" community. Thus, if Arsenal or ManUtd can have a fan base in HongKong or Wellington, similarly the A-League can be followed by people outside Sydney or Melbourne without the need for an actual local club in those smaller towns like Wellington. Gold Coast.

This is of course a fallacy but you can see how these things can be twisted to fit an unsuccessful role model.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Yeah, and your example of Arsenal and Man Utd shows a massive flaw in that line of reasoning if that is what Gallop is thinking. League fans in towns without a pro team have only NRL clubs to choose from if they are going ng to support someone ( or UK superleague, but the point stands). Football fans in Townsville or Canberra or wherever have massive global clubs with huge brands competing with the A League for their attention. By far and away the key point of difference the A League has over Eurotrash megaclubs is local community identity and engagement. That community engagement and identity doesn't extend into towns and cities which don't have teams so why would Joe Eurosnobs in Hobart or wherever follow a South Sydney team over, say, Man Utd?

I already know the answer to that. I asked if the other clubs outside of Melbourne and Sydney should be worried after he had tried to shat the Nix.

"Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people's ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise."

David - does this resonate with you?

I think their strategy is bound to fail purely based on the fact that they have such a high threshold in terms of population base. They need to be realistic, using their template they could conceivably have a 10 team league based in just 4 major centres. While there are obvious benefits to having clubs in big markets you can't simply cast aside the rest of your population because of that. Quite conceivably if Central Coast or Newcastle stumble again, and there are willing franchises ready to go in Melbourne or Sydney - they will be toast. You can also forget any chance of he likes of Canberra, Townsville, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart etc getting any look in, in future. Leagues can't survive with teams only in big markets, all over the world there are clubs in small cities playing at the highest level.

I also wonder how this fits in with the talk a few years ago about how the Asian Confederation were pushing for the A League to be a promotion/relegation league as part of some global blueprint/masterplan? That wouldn't fit in with what FFA are talkign about would it?

Makes me so angry reading the comments after the article - So many people still dont know the facts,  ppl commenting on the TV deal (which the FFA negotiated),  Fifa dont want the Nix there,  AFC dont want the Nix there.   Why are there still so many ill informed ppl.   We need to get some of the Media to get the message across,  Social Media is only doing so much (it is doing great by the way) #savethenix
