Davids and Kluivert

Davids and Kluivert

Mentioned in the Sydney Morning Herald over here that the 'nix are in the mix to sign either of these two for a  guest spot. Figures of $30K per game for Davids and $20K for Kluivert are being mentioned. Any comments? For mine I think they would be great for raising the profile, but always a little wary of guest players.

Davids is to old at 35 imo.

Would be nice, but Phoenix sources are denying it.

Agreed! David always gave his all even when he has a bad day. Most players just give up. Plus he is a better team player and brings a good professional feel about him. But I think that we not interested in spending heaps of money on a pot luck chance that former glory players will stuck a gold medal performance. The crowd numbers increase may not really justify in order to break even on the returns. I think we could get more ommph from another player at a lower price.

Go for Kluivert!  Early last year I suggested Kluivert or Nuno Gomes.  The club listening to me perhaps?  Definitely get Kluivert at least as a guest player, but prefferably as a marquee player.  He was simply amazing at Euro 2000 and from what I have seen of him since then he has not been anywhere near bad.  I'd fly up for a couple more games this season if he donned our kit.

Apparently Sydney and Melbourne turned down Sukur a season or two ago. I'd rather have him.

Davids is definately one of my all time favourite players, although that might be because of the glasses and we don't really need another attcking midfielder. Either of them would probably boost crowds as well . Oska2008-08-23 08:00:47

Davids is a defensive midfielder.

They would both be a waste of money in my opinion, both to old. hat money would be better spent elsewhere.

I think Davids could be fantastic, he had a fantastic engine and great pace and skill for somebody who was ostensibly a DM. He could bring terrific bite and presence to our midfield. Don't think I'd want to see party Kluivert here though.

I'd rather see Kluivert, as Kluivert = striker.

yeah Davids is too old...wait, what?! he's not much older than Coveny and he'd still be waaaay better than the DMs in the A-league.

We don't need Davids, we've already got Dodd.

He may have been lazy and disinterested but he scored goals didn't he?  EPL and La Liga are the top competitions in the world, so even if he was lazy he'd still be good.

It is only a couple of years ago Davids was at Spurs and was a class act. Davids, Dodd, Davids, Dodd? ask me again in 4 years and it will still be Davids.

Davids would be by far and away the most talented player in HAL this season if he came over. Don't really know why we would contemplate such a move though.

Kluivert's been a waste of space for a number of seasons now, and is way too much trouble for its worth.

Davids is actually younger than Coveny for whoever said he wasn't...think Davids would be much better than Kluivert...but think its pretty unrealistic that we'd get either in. Kluivert has really gone down hill of late.

Agreed. I also don't think we should use our Marquee spot on a defensive midfielder. A striker would be a far more sensible area to spend that extra cash in my opinion.

Wouldn't we be better off to have a marquee rather than guest player? With all due respect to the Davids, Kluiverts, and Hasselbaink's of this world, and what they've achieved... I don't see the value in getting a player for 3/4/5 weeks and then they're off again... wouldn't be that great for team morale either I wouldn't have thought?

If they're here for the season, and they're still capable of contributing... different story

Always interested but we won't get anyone for the hell of it. It must add value to the team and fit in with the team makeup.

u are so right dont waste our money on the likes of them well past their date, davids and kluivert would be charity cases, and hasselbank well he didnt set things alight at cardiff they are still entrenched in the championship and itll be dave jones head next on the block if they dont go up, lets stick with the players with got and cheer them on

Nicely said Tony P.  Well if Sydney want to make up these rumours then power to them, or to us if people start talking about big names like those as our marquees, its not bad press at all.

Defo think we need a striker as our marquee though.
