Defenders

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

A sound defence is what any team must be based on. You'd think Ricky would know that, being a defender himself.
I'm very worried that we are defensively weak atm, I know its early days yet, but Old and O'Dear are two squad players, certainly not first team line-up players.

We need players at least as good as Buncey and Tambo, Bazeley and Gordon, who formed a very solid unit for the last round for the Knights.

Tambo is a must Oi me boy. Anyone know where he is.

haha bazeley.

Bazeley? I'd rather have Sean Devine than him!

We need Tambo, Lochhead, and Gibson

Tembouras is earning quite abit overseas i talked to his cousin in ausy who plays for roar and hes on about $100,000.

Tambo is like Bunce, a long ball merchant, he cant pass and that is something im sure ricki realises. He'll be after defenders with a little nouce about them so he can play his passing game from the back to the front.

Bazely though, only time attackers came unstuck against him was when they looked into his mono brow....

Tambo is a real nice guy, he'll sit and talk to with the fans all day, and has a very professional attitude BUT he's not a great central defender so I wouldnt want him signed.

A dog with a bone :)

I agree.  We need a tight defence.  I'm not to sure of any players that Ricky his eye but I guess they must have a least solid A-League experience.

some one like bobo balde of celtic. really make the defensive strong plus he adds height in at the corners

and bazerly.............. pfft id be better than him!
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
O'dor will push for a start.. has a great football brain, reads the play well.. looking forward to seeing him play.

I don't think we are going to bother with defenders - we are looking at a Total Football approach, with Paston and Barbarouses playing as twin centre backs

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Geez...this is the A-League, they're not looking to sign Rio Ferdinand. If they signed Buncey and Tambo then I'm fine with that. I'd prefer Bunce than Old.

He must be doing more than smoking...Popping Pills, taking needles and aving a bad case of OD....Costa centre back..we might as well fofeit all our games.

Yeah I'd be happy with Bunce and Tambo as 1st choice. Mark Byrnes was released by Melbourne - he'd be a good addition at the back - and most of his mates are already here .... ha ha.

Also on Chad Gibson - he's signed a 6 game deal with Blacktown in the NSW Premier League to put himself "in the shop window" - wonder if Ricki will have a look.

I was going to say!!! Since when did a striker beome a defender. Thats like playing Wayne Rooney in goal...not saying hed be bad, probablly come out to break legs, but yeah...you get the idea.

Are we so dim we can't appreciate Frankie's comedy stylings.  Read it again lads, putting Costa at the back wasn't anywhere near as amusing as his suggestion of putting Paston there as well.

No, no and no, not under any circumstances.  If neither Miron (is good coach) or Farina thought he was good enough to play in a Queensland side that we killed he is not good enough for us.

Byrnes maybe, Zoolander... NO !

Gibson is a great player id take him neday. Bunce is crap dont even talk about him. Tambouras and Gibson would be awesome, however i still believe we need an import defender. MAlaka Rossi i dno if u know him but ye he was trialing for Roar when i was over there in jan.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
If Gibson isn't good enough for Queensland under two different managers, why is he good enough for us ?  Surely we're aiming to be a better side than Queenslands reserves ?  You'll notice how no other A-League clubs are queuing for 'The Chad's' signature and he's having to play in the NSW Premier League ? There is a reason for that.

Gibson would be great if we're looking to pick up the wooden spoon.  Bunce at least was good enough to get matches in the A-League, Gibson wasn't, and Che has the right passport.

Tambouras yes.

yeah ive heard of Malaka Rossi i watched him play a couple of years back. hes young with a ton of talent. i remember one of his team mates was quite good also i think his name was Carlos Tsoutsouna? or something like that. just goes to show haw many good defenders are out there... ripe for the picking

Gibson can play football. Bunce is jst a muppet. He plays the odd good game but it depends wat sort of style football u want the Phoenix to be playing. Bunce just bangs it up field. Teach him how to play football on the ground like the greeks and then i believe hell be good enough. Also while ur at it chuk some white boots on him. Done.

Yeah some nice predators would be good. not the fake ones though.

Depends on his coach and how good his midfield is.  When Salley was fit last season and Ricki coaching them Che regularly played the ball out on the deck.  Even more impressive when you consider he was usually covering for the fact that Bazeley was missing at Right back.

As for White boots, we'll leave that for the ladies, like The Chad.

I really think we should stretch to go for a foriegn defender, i mean we get all the foreign spots taken up by strikers and attacking players why not spend some good money on a good all round back and solidify our defence. Wow solidify good word.

i agree mabye some ex columbian or ecuadorian or a current venezualen or peruvian heck there are heaps of quality defenders out there some angolan players from the world cup expressed a lot of intress in the a league but nothing has come of it worth a look.

I think with the two South Americans on their way....Daniel will slot into the back line......he is a " attack-minded defender  " as stated on wikipedia which I think is good for the phoenix...He would be the kind of player that would be able to mount a counter attack very fast.

Could maybe play him LB like an Ashley Cole role.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Lochead will be left back, daniel will be left mid, but who will be cd and rb.

I think Pritchett might get in there, good attacking fullback, if not a little suspect defencively.

You mean he takes an absolute truck load of money to f**k off to Chelsea and wins f**k all ?

Right Back is a problem for us.  With Mully and Oughton unlikely to come home our stocks are limited.  Old has played there, but has never delivered there (has a touch of the Bazeley's as a right back) and I suspect we need to help him fulfill his potential as a CB.

It's a spot I suspect we'll need an Australian for as I personally don't think Pritchett is A-League quality (I'd prefer Birch or Sanjay Singh to him) and the stocks here are very limited...

Hopefully RH signs a quality back four (no danny hay, that doesn't count you) with a young kiwi defender or two who has the potential to be a good AW in the short term future (ie: u/20s), lets face it, Nelsen aint gunna play anytime soon for the national team and its ime we look at replacements.

daniel should play laft wing back, so he also comes up on attack.

P.s Ryan nelson is too worried about his career at blackburn then playing for the all whites
